GOP leaders had sought to attach the campaign finance legislation to a final defense bill, a move aimed at hampering Democratic-aligned groups such as MoveOn.org that were a powerful voice in 2004 and could threaten GOP candidates next year.

Huh? Moveon.org a threat? That's a laugh. Never has so much money made so little impact in politics. Moveon.org is a black hole for Democrats' money, I don't think they have a single victory to their name.

The worse thing that could happen is the Democrats acting as moderates, when the looney left is out in full force they will never get elected. That aside limiting what they have to say is clear violation of the 1st Amendment regardless of their political views.
