I'm getting sick and tired of my Dell Inspiron 8100 crashing when it feels like it, or the keys sticking, etc...

I'm looking for the cheapest bottom dollar laptop.

Requirements:

brand new
Runs XP
has USB port
enough ram and HD to run XP and a few programs

Any ideas?

I will be using it mainly to log data from my car's PCM.

eBay and Craigslist are two places to start.

I just got an Acer with an AMD Sempron 3000 for $625 before a $50 rebate from newegg.  I dropped another $40 to add 512mb RAM to bring it to 768mb.  So far it seems to be a good laptop.

Depends on how oftern you use it fr how much you should spend. I work at a private school and al the kids use laptops instead of books. The cheaper ones comes in the most for pieces falling off, the Dells have horrible chargers and the batteries dont hold up too well. Then again these kids use them 5-7 hours a day.

Thats where I bought mine.  I purchased a refurb but it was a smoking deal!!

Oh yeah mine is a Gateway 7320 w/2.8Ghz P4 HT, 1GB of DDR RAM, CD/DVD burner, 80 GB harddrive, with 4 USB, WiFi, multiple media card reader, firewire.  It was $749.
