A while ago there was a debate on the usage of the term. Some one posted a pic with a really good description. Any one have it?

And also how is your day going?

Except in the case of a M1 Garand.... The clip becomes part of the magazine, IMHO.

The clip is "feeding" the internal mag of an M1

Some weapons are clip fed.

How can you forget the M1 Garand?

IIRC there are some revolver models that feed rimless rounds from those moon, half moon etc clips.

I wonder when this problem even began?  WWII with widespread use of Garand and troops returning home?

True, but the clip becomes the feed lips of the magazine....

I think the advent of detachable magazines caused the confusion. Previous infantry bolt actions were fixed mags loaded with a clip.

Magazines are where responsible gunowners read about the best chokes for large waterfowl.

Clips hold bullets that shoot down airliners.

The Garand clip becomes part of the magazine mechanism. This is why it is called en bloc or 'in the block'. It isn't the only rifle design that uses the en bloc system, but I think it was one of the last. My old Gewehr 1888 Commission rifle used en bloc clips. Since I couldn't find any clips I had to use it as a single shot weapon.
