I like to make tacos with corn tortillas fried up in the pan but all I ever see is 6" rounds.  I'd like to make bigger tacos.  Does anyone make or sell 12" rounds in the US?

Yep, I'm lazy, I'd rather make one big one than three small ones.  It's also more work rolling up lots of small ones for enchiladas than a few big ass rolls.

Another friend of mine also told me not even in Mexico.  He also told me flour torillas in Mexico are not like ours, they are more light and flakey than our (USA) more spongier ones so to speak.

Thanks guys, thought I would give it a shot.

Perhaps I'll get a wife and reconsider ("Get back there and make me a big tortilla, woman!")

"Cornholio"

If this is really a brand, I think I'll stick with murican food

Mexico is metric, so unfortunately you are gonna be stuck with 300mm tortillas.

According to an expert who had a table at the 'Ethnic Foods Show' this past weekend, 12" tortillas have become really expensive since the TITB (Twelve Inch Tortilla Ban) of '93. If you can find a 'pre-ban' 12" Tortilla, you're gonna pay out the nose for it.

No, it would take too much corn meal to make 12" rounds.....

so they are limited to making 6 inchers.

They are available at the grocery store I go to. Some of you must have lousy grocery stores. Scratch that. I know most of you have lousy grocery stores.

Yes, but you can't have them. They are banned in your state.

From Mission's website:

Q. What are the sizes available in corn tortillas?
A. The typical corn tortilla size available in all markets is 6” diameter; we have 7” and 8” diameter corn tortillas available in limited areas.

Ah, two 8" taco's - that would cut my work by 1/3!  Muchoz grassy ass.  Now to find the super secret limited locations and import them, I've done it before - such is the price for living in the great state of AK.

go to your nearest fast food joint, and ask the Mexicans who work there, where they get their groceries from.

Only if they have 10 or more pieces of US corn in them

I guess I have forgotten how big a 12" would be after checking it out. I guess that would be too big even for a big taco, that's giant burrito size.  I'm thinking a 9" would make a really nice big taco, but I will settle for the 8".

Yes. I see them all the time. The Hispanic community in the DC area is huge so they are at the everyday supermarkets. I make fajitas with them.

I think a lot of you guys are confusing corn tortillas with flour tortillas.  Flour tortillas come from a small as 6" up to 15" big burrito sizes.  Corn are almost always 6"  (I wouldn't be surprised if that's because the mamacitas couldn't get larger ones hand made that didn't fall apart.)  The only place I ever recall seeing larger than 6" was at a tortilleria, that almost immediately wedged them and made chips out of them.

By the way, New Mexico style enchiladas are usually made by stacking the tortillas and stuffings.  Probably other places too.

Yup, in order to get one > 6" you need a tax stamp.

Oh, that's right. They are flour tortillas. Lo siento. Well, one could always make home-made 12" tortillas with masa harina.
