Howdy, all!  Long time lurker, first time poster.  I know most here have a weapon within easy reach most of the time, but I was wondering how many actually keep one under the pillow?  So how about it?  Do you sleep with a gun under your pillow?  I sleep with an M4gery under mine.  It's a bit lumpy, but I sleep very well knowing it's there.

Welcome CO,

Not under the pillow . . . I've got two small children.  But I keep my pistol in the top drawer of my dresser with a pulloff gunlock.  It takes about 15lbs of force to remove the lock, but no keys are required.

I tried that once.  I just couldn't get used to it being there and after a 1 1/2 hours of not being able to sleep I moved it.

Not only no.  But heck no!  I move around to much at night and the thing would wind up on the floor every night.

So my Sig P220 is right next to my bed on the night stand.

The fact that I am paranoid in no way precludes the possibility that someone is out to get me.

1911 With empty chamber and surefire on the night stand, Ithaca 37 leaning up against the nightstand. I move alot while im asleep so I have no way of knowing where my pistol might end up, this way it stays in one place.

Yes, I do actually. 9mm PT-92. One in the chamber, and 10 in the mag. It's double action so i feel safe with it there as long as the hammer isnt cocked back. g/f makes me move it to under the bed most of the time when she stays over. People always look at me like i'm nuts but its not like its going to go off in the stage i keep it unless i intentionally pull the trigger. Been doin it for quite awhile now and no problems. I dont have a night stand or anything, and my bed is against the wall so i dont have any other spot to put it.

ETA: Oh yeah, before i got a handgun, I kept my AK under my pillow. Kept it out of sight during the day, and kept me feeling rather safe at night.

Ok, those with young children in the house how accessible is your primary weapon? I have mine in a safe with the key nearby but I hate it. I wish there was a safer way to have it at arms reach.

night stand.

I'm afraid that it'll get pushed between the headboard and matress when I sleep.

If i ever needed it I wouldn't be able to get to it as quick.

I make sure that the pistol is oriented in the same fashion on the nightstand before I go to bed each night.  Familiarity may equate to faster presentation.

Dont ARs have quite a bit of plastic on them? You should all replace yours with wood or steel so they wont suck as much as Glocks.

Quick release safe next to the bed.  M4 on top of 7' tall dresser-type computer desk.  2 year old without rocket packs means she can't get to the M4 and safe means she can't get to the XD.  Takes 2 seconds to open the little safe.

I'm planning to add an in-wall rifle safe for the M4.

Right next to the bed...

As to the original topic/question, I sleep with a gun in the bed (but not under my pillow) only when I am completely alone (i.e., my wife and son are away overnight [very rare] or I am away in a hotel [only slightly more common]) and only because I am a VERY heavy sleeper.  (Yes, I have dogs, motion-sensing lights, an alarm system, etc... but you can't be too careful. )

NO because I know someone who had an AD while he was asleep with his Glock .40 He put a hole through an interior and exterior wall.

BTW it was about 2 inches from his head when it went kaboom. He no longer sleeps with it there anymore

My AR is within Arms reach though

I have a SAA on the night table, Winchester rifle next to the table, winchester under the bed and an M1 rifle under my Pillow (Unless th wife is home, then it gets laid on the floor next to the bed)  If I am alone I also have a couple of 1911s in holsters on me as I sleep
