Well guys, I have the money to get a preban, but only one.  As things are going now, I wont be able to get another pricey weapon for some time.
Soooo, should I get a carbine or a 20" ??? I'm going to get a bushmaster either way. It will be a all around rifle, target, recreation, possible shtf type stuff.
Now I know Ive seen threads about if you could only have one, but I plan on getting another sometime in the future, but this one will have to last me awhile.
Thanks [:D]

If it was me I'd get a 20" you can always buy a 16" and then if you get a 16" you can always buy a 20". It just depends on what you like the 20" is going to be a little more accurate out past 300 yd but the 16" is good for tight spots like in buildings and around corners.

Do you already have a 20" POSTBAN upper??

Then get a preban 16", as you can ALWAYS slap a POSTBAN upper on a preban lower.

A Bayonet Lug and Flash Supressor has never been worth the extra thousand dollars over a post-ban to me....

As far as the Tactical Uses for those items?
Well, if I am ever in a situation where I have a practical need for a "flash Supressor", I am not going to be checking 922r to make sure my upper is in compliance with the law...

Do you just want to be able to go to the range and have all the rookies say "Ohhhhhh....Look at that Tele-Stock! That is soooooooo cool!" ??

WHY DOES THERE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ONE???  And on your third post!
He has stated that he is going to buy a preban.  So you can't afford one, that's fine.  Don't rain on someone else's parade.  He wants to get a preban.  Does that necessitate you starting the old 'preban ain't worth......."?  And since when is $1200-$1400 a thousand more than $700-$900?

I don't know how it works around here, but when someone says something idiotic and wrong, what is the appropriate way to handle it?
Do I need to post pics of my bank books, or can I just call him an ass?

Butkus, I just got a preban lower and can't wait to build on it.

I'm planning on slapping a M4 upper and collapsible stock as soon as possible.

I've already got a 20" FN preban upper, and even though it may look silly with the stock, I'll still slap it on at the range for accuracy shooting. Though I will probably go with the Rock River Arms stock since they've got a new 6 position that extends to the A2 length.

I mean, it is a preban, you might as well go with all the evil features. You can always build a 20" or 24" post ban target rifle.

If you feel more comfortable with the 20" upper in a SHTF type scenario, it would still take probably 10 seconds to swap out uppers.

Butkus, buy a Colt Green label, you won't regret it.  I too have to ask the question, since when did pre ban prices rise to $1000 more than a post ban?

Every Colt A2 preban around here goes for $2000+
SP1s run from $1100-$2000+ (on the dealers tables)
I would go with a 20" as it will give you range
and you live in a "range area."
Just make sure you are getting the best deal you
can and remember in the box with the papers is
the Holy Grail[smoke]

I have to agree that the pre ban features arent really worth the money (the buttstock is cool though). but that doesn't mean that I'm not on the market for a preban lower whenever I find one![:P]

Yep, that's why flash suppressors fit more than just the .223/5.56.  Make mine a Garand with a Vortex![;)]

Where do you find a Vortex or maybe even a Phantom for a Garand?  Post the address, I would be very interested in such a thing.

Now back to the original post!
You are paying some of the cost to be able to have a retracting stock so go for it. A carbine with a retractable stock is such a compact package, easy to transport, easy to use for younger, smaller shooters and cool beyond belief!

I'd get a 16 in. w/ collapsible stock. If your spending the extra money for a pre-ban the stock is one of your evil feature benefits. Although I admit to shooting better with my 20 inch. You will eventually probally have one (or more) of each anyway.
