I have a Dell Inspiron 300M  laptop, since a couple of weeks ago, I am getting no sound out of the laptop's speakers, but when the laptop is docked the desk speakers work with no problem, what could it be?

Wouldn't the drivers affect all sound? How come the speakers plugged to the docking station work?

no necessarily.

I could easily see how poorly written drivers would allow the port for external speakers to work while disabling the internal sound.  2 different parts of the sound card.

ALSO  go to the control panel.  then open multimedia or sounds and audio devices...  click the audio tab..  make sure sound playback is NOT grayed out.  should list your sound card here! if it doesn't your sound card is not installed correctly.
