Also, what is the best way to come in from the east?

I'll be coming in from I-10.

IIRC - You'll have to cross the Causeway or Hwy 11 bridge to get in. I-10 is still broke at the Twin Spans. Traffic sucks!
Gasoline is available most places around outside of Orleans Parish without any lines to speak of. Get it before you get into New Orleans.

Expect gas stations to be out of certain grades.
Some gas stations are shut down, or don't offer full service like air or water.
None of them carry any supplies for vehicles beyond washer fluid.
Certain key routes, stations are clogged up.
Carry 20s, because some aren't set up to accept CCs yet.
A jerry can carrying some spare gas is a good idea.
Be advised, gas was 2.89 lowest grade there yesterday.

Most of the gas stations in Kenner (where the new orleans airport is) has gas, as do most places in metairie. I have no issues finding food or gas out in kenner..

Also, double check your spare.
For every roof shingle that flew away, there is a roofing nail waiting for you.

+1.

I've been in the area since 9/1/05.  9/10 I transfered to a detail in MS.

I still get the POS United Radio blah blah NOLA.

Bottom line:

Bring what you will consume WITH you.

Regard anything you can find in the city as a pleasant surprise.

hex is right, check your spare, and a can of fix a flat. The sav-a-center and win-dixie (grocerys) are open near me, and fully stocked. The walmart near me is also open with full shelves. Academy is selling ammo and guns again.

*edit* also, the grocery on napolian and tchap. opened the other day, so there is food uptown now. There are lines to get in, but they have a good amount of food. Also, alot of the uptown bars are opening up again

Who cares about gasoline? The more important question should be how much ammo are you taking with you.
