I got my stupid ass locked out of one once.  Beings the only choice was to go through the line, we camped out a locked access gate until a security/staff guy wandered by.

Around 2000 when I went back to visit some friends. Man 87, you gotta get back to casa bonitas, it was rather trashy around it but it was still freaking cool.

I used to work there in the "Old Time Photo" place.  You know, that place you go and get your picture taken while wearing an old west type costume that has been on the stinky, filthy, unwashed bodies of many thousands before you.  Yep, the costumes rarely got washed or cleaned.

And I could cure your nostalgia for the rest of the place by taking you on a walk through the kitchen.

The only safe thing to eat there now is the hot dogs.

I think they were going for the Authentic appearance, just like the cliff diver.

Every once in awhile, the diver would just slightly miss his mark and turn the pool red.
...good times.

The only food I liked there was the soapapillas but I had a nephew who we took every year for his birthday.

I did know a cocktail waitress who worked there, what a slut she was, not that I minded.

I go to Denver every couple of months for work and one of my co-workers to me I HAD to go there, just HAD to!

So I get out there and ask the locals at work what the deal is.  The almost unanimous reply was, "Why is the hell would you want to go there?!!?"  "Who told you to go there??!  Do they like you?!?!"

Needless to say, I didn't make it.

Went for the first time in along time about two years ago.  Fun for the kid, but not enough to outweigh the incredibly horrid food.  Won't be going back anytime soon.

FWIW my favorite in Denver is Tacos Jalisco at 38th and Tennyson.

Tulsa closed last week with NO NOTICE after 35 years in business at 21st & Sheridan...I was 9 years old when they opened and 43 years old when they closed.

Used to have a g/f who worked there when we were both in high school. Most people don't know that it was wholly owned by Taco Bueno, or that was what was on her paychecks. And you're right, the food was crap (unless you were a kid and didn't care)

I remember that it was lots of fun, but crappy food.  I'd go back.

Forgive me, I don't, nor have I ever lived in Colorado, but what is Casa Bonita? Is it like a wild west type
restaurant/bar?

Mexican food restaurant that is over the tops.  They have a flag on each table you raise for service.  Trays of cheap Mexican food.  Indoor cliff diver.  Pool of water barely deep enough for the fall.  Black Bart's Cave.  Soapillas for desert.

You need to see the South Park episode...or just go to Denver.

I miss Casa Bonita too. Not for the food, just for the atmosphere. Everytime we would wait in that long line it felt like I was about to get on the Pirates of the Caribean ride in Disney World.

Their restaurants are only exclusive to Denver?

Ever have French Donuts? It is a shortbread dough, deepfired to make it crunchy on the outside, painfully steaming hot on the inside and covered with powdered sugar, granulated sugar and cinnamon or honey.

It is food porn.  Simple, good and tasty.

So, is it fair to say that Casa Bonita has "jumped the shark" one too many times, and is at the end of it's syndication contract with no chance for renewal?

When I was a kid in Colorado, there was this place called the "Organ Grinder" or something like that. Now before anyone makes a funny comment, no it was not a place to bump nasties, but rather a pizza place with a huge organ...oh shit I give up.

Its not about the food folks, it was just a neat place. The food wasnt amazing but still better than taco bell. And the prices werent bad either, unless they have raised the prices.
