I keep getting Winfixer and another bogus security pop-up, and it seems like it's coming from here. Anybody else experiencing this?

Spyware gets on your computer through a variety of ways. The most common is using any software that is free. Have you actually ever read the EULA you click yes too? You give them permission to install that crap on your computer just so you don't have to pay it. Another way of getting spyware is using IE. There vulnerabilies in IE that let unscrupulous websites load the shit on your computer without your permission.

As to what is spyware. It puts tracking cookies on your computer that sends back personal information to a wensite. They track internet usage(sites you have been to), it also can collect personal information such as credit card information, addresses, basically anything you send out over the internet. As some of the posters have mentioned, there are very good FREE anti spyware programs out there. NEVER use just one to clean your machine. Adware, Spybot and I also MS antispyware(beta).

Also, try to quit using IE and get another broswer like Mozilla's firefox, opera,hell netscape is even halfway decent.

I've been getting the Winfixer popup too. Only when I come to Arfcom. I've ran Adaware twice and it keeps coming back.

Spyware is REAL bad......I know someone who got Herpes Simplex 2 from it.......

I use Mozilla for my browser - zero spyware problems
