These are all taken in West Fallujah, and elsewhere in Anbar.
I tried to take shots from some rarely seen perspectives...

Like from the turret of a Humvee....

Or while sitting on the tailgate of a Nissan, heading towards the sound of the fighting...

Or from the roof of my lovely Fallujah home (yes, it's right in the thick of things).  So much for force protection.

The usual suspects (night and day...)

A warrior...

Me and the kids....

Enjoy.

Things are going well.
Advisors are not fairing well, lately, but I watch my six, 24/7.

No sleep, endless missions.
Just what I had in mind (15-20 years ago).

Gotta ask, do you ever encounter the "insurgency" or is it pretty much hide and seek?
Link Posted: 10/9/2005 3:37:39 AM EDT
[#6]
Both.
Lots of tossed grenades, IEDs, RPGs, bursts of small arms fire, and the occaisional mortar.

The IEDs often come with all the trimmings of a deliberate ambush.
Fine in a Hummer, not so fine on foot.

We are clearing them out of the city, and pushing them west.
They are cowards, not too bright (thanks God), and only know how to run away and rat out their pals.
The dimes drop all day.

I take it you are in a M1114?

And is that open sewage in some of the pics?

In the one pic, I'm in an "uparmor".
But that's rare.  I usually walk, or sometimes I ride in the back of a Nissan PU.
Patrol, patrol, patrol. (ambush, raid, kick in doors.)

yes, shit flows like rivers.

Well trip some one into the pile of shit and make it look like an accident, hell at least it would be worth a laugh

Stay safe man. And use up all the ammo you can.

Thanks for the pics. I hope you guys are making progress over there. The news media never publishes anything positive, only the daily IED stories. My son spent  a year in Balad and the surrounding area doing everything from patrols to door gunner on dustoffs. He made it back safe but now carries tremendous psychological baggage that he has yet to come to grips with.

Soldiers are my favorite kind of people. Thank you for serving and keep your head down.

ETA Marines are okay, too!

Wrap carpet across both surfaces of the armor plate protecting the machinegun on the humvee's roof. Fit as best as you can. It's a redneck anti-fragmentation mod.

What's the story behind the "genuine terrorist?"

What did he do?

What did he say?

Where will he end up?

Thanks and stay safe.

Running into local guys or foriegners? The foreigners seemed to me to be the trickier of the two. How far north into Anbar are you making it or can you not say? I dont think we ever got anyone from fallujah up by us when I was there.

Thanks for your service. My nephew is two weeks into his second hitch over there. Ever hear of Camp Anaconda? Where is that?

What is the main industry around there?  I see pictures of people on the streets and small markets.  Is it a farming town?  Industry? Oil? Etc?

Camp Anaconda is the main US support base north of Baghdad. My son was stationed there when he did his tour over there.

Again, great pics Cincinnatus, and be careful over there. Your service is greatly appreciated!

Not heartbreaking because of the toy AK. Hell, I had toy guns as a kid. LOTS of them.

It's heartbreaking that so many innocents are caught up in this madness, and are being corrupted by their own parents, uncles, etc.

THAT'S what I find heartbreaking.
