Hopefully it puts an end to the recurring sinus/throat infections that I have been getting. My throat hurts pretty bad, but the Percocets help. Plus they make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Pics?

ETA a friend had his removed a while back. While everything is fine now, the recovery is not all sunshine and happiness. He almost bled to death down his throat when something broke loose a week after surgery.

So, how ya' feeling?

I am not feeling too bad at all. The Percocet does a great job of keeping the pain in check. It hurt pretty bad when I woke up this morning, but I popped a couple of those babies, and it knocked the pain (and me) right out.

A friend of mine had serious bleeding after a tonsilectomy that was performed by the same doctor who did my laser procedure. The great thing about the laser is there is almost never bleeding, whereas a regular tonsilectomy has bleeding around 10% of the time.

I think that it is a very similar procedure. Your snoring could be interrupting your sleep, it might well be owrth getting done. If it is anything like my surgery, it is not much worry about.

So THAT is where the tonsils are?
I thought they were farther down the throat than that.
Hell, I can reach them with a pair of pliars.

By the way, how the hell did you get such a good photo.
Most flash units are far enough away from the lens that
you would sun burn your nose and get a bad shadow in your throat.

I used a mirror so that I could see the LCD display of my camera. I have a pretty small camera, so the flash is close enough to the lens for it to work.

Why did you have them half lasered out?  Looks like a lot left.

Also,

If your tonsils are small or gone, look for an ENT doc that will do an injection snoreplasty.  A 3-500 dollar shot in the roof of your mouth (soft palate).....in about 93% of patients, no significant snoring for at least 2 years (study ended at two years)......

Now that I can see them, I am wondering that myself. I suspect he was trying to remove as little tissue as necessary. The main goal was to destroy the crypts, as that was where my problems seemed to be stem from. I had HUGE crypts.

My wife just had her tonsils removed Monday.  When I talked to here last night (I'm in Korea and she’s in NC) her voice was about back to normal, but she still cannot eat any solid food yet.  I don't remember what she told me the Doc gave here for pain, I know it wasn't Percocet, but it works really well.

Hope you get well soon.

Let me ask you something... what time did you go to the hospital, the duration of the surgery and when did you go home?

Reason why I am asking... I got my tonsils removed in 1971 with a 2 day stay in the hospital.

My bride had hers removed in 1991 and she had a 8 hour stay (outpatient)

I have been thinking about that, never had my tonsils out and have always had problems breathing while sleeping. Went to my otolaryngologist and he said my tonsils were very close together, gave me some flonase to try and see if it helped. I haven't started using it yet, but I have always thought my tonsils were the problem. Couple questions, was it covered by your insurance? And if not, any idea how much the procedure was?

I was at my doctor's office for about 30 minutes. But, I didn't have a tonsilectomy. This laser procedure is something entirely different. I still have part of my tonsils, he just lasered away the parts that he thought were giving me trouble.
