There are two schools within 150 yards of my house here in Turdville. One has been rebuilt completely and the other is in a state of advancing decay. The local volunteer fire department has the medflight helicopter do dustoffs at the old school most of the time but occasionally at the new school. The old school has a large grassy field that isn't mowed anymore and is a poor choice for night landings. There are no lights and the firefighters have to light a LZ with their truck lights.
I am going to try to get enough community support for a lighted concrete pad for the helicopter so it wont have to worry about wires and soft mud. How thick does concrete have to be to support a medflight copter? What overall dimensions? Any ideas on a project like this? How would you go about starting the effort and inspiring interest? Any ideas on government funding?
Thanks.
