Abe is so smart it is sometimes truly scary.

I'd like to get a female to breed with Abe.  I'd also like to have a Fila or a Kuvasz as well.

Last year I had to put my 13yr old shep/husky mix, Sheba, to sleep. Broke our hearts real bad.

As soon as we buy a house, we are getting another dog. I would like a Shepard or Chessapeak bay retreiver. The wife wants a golden retreiver.

When it really comes down to it, I don't care what kind of dog we get, I just want one!! Although I do want a med/large size dog.

I like Beagles too but they are too much dog for me. [;)]  Really.

The two girls are Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. They are half sisters.

The big one took reserve AGAIN at the dog show last weekend.  Probably should try a pro handler but they are 60 bucks a pop.  Oh well.

My wife LOVES the English Mastiff as well as Beagles.

I have a beagle/black&tan coon hound mix named Buddy(mostly call him Bud or Budster) He is the size of a beagle(a little taller though) with the coloring of the black and tan coon hound. He is a nice looking dog. spoiled, but he will run the rabbits though.

This is one of the girl with the Iowa floating behind her.

mtpatriot-  Your Mastiff is beautiful, what does your boy weigh?  I think my girl is big at a little over a hundred pounds but she looks tiny next to an English Mastiff.  I looked at the Kuvasz when I was first deciding on a breed.  They are beautiful but not the pleasant love bugs your mastiff is. Still wanted one myself though.  Was for sure gonna get one of those or an Anatolian Sheperd, until I saw the head you see in the picture above.  After seeing that head I knew there was no other dog for me. Thanks Ratters.  At 160ish pounds Abe is a little small for a male but what he lacks in size he more than compensates for in intelligence.  Honestly, smartest dog I've ever owned.

BTW your girls look like perfect specimens!!  I thought about getting one when I got my boy.

Had one till last October. Bruce was almost 13 years old when we had to put him down due to cancer. Got so bad, he had to be lifted up off the floor to go do his business (not so easy when he weighed 160+).

Damn fine dog who is still greatly missed by all in my family.

mtn,
I currently have a Golden Retriever. He is way to big for the breed, 100 pounds and the vet says he could gain some weight.  He is a very intelligent and loving animal as well.  Play dead, beg on his hindquarters, roll over and so on.  My favorite is that I have hime trained to get beers out of the fridge, comes in very handy during football season!  Now if I could somehow get him to take a leak for me I would never have to get off the couch.
I want to get a companion for him and was wondering if Mastiffs socialize with other dogs well.  What do they cost?  How much room do they need?  Just the basic details.  They are beautiful animals, I just don't know much about them.

Hey Trickey,  My other dog is a Golden.  Even though Abe has a 70+ advantage over the Golden, she still rules the roost!

As for the Mastiff, best breed I've ever had.  If you let them, the couch is the only "space" they need.

They need some exercise. I let Abe out for 10-15 minutes so he can run around pretending he is king of the world.  After he does his business and looks over the yard to make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary he "knocks" with his muzzle when he is ready to come in.

When my wife is home alone, every ten to fifteen minutes, he will make the rounds from room to room and look out the windows and doors just checking everything out.  Natural guard dog.

Gets along with most dogs fine but doesn't allow strays or wandering neighborhood dogs.

I traded a S&W 442 for Abe but they sell for $500-$1,500.

There is a couple very good books about them, one is: Mastiff: Aristocratic Guardian by dee dee Anderson.  I've got another but I'm not sure where my wife has it.

Let me know if I could answer anything else for you.

Here is my boy - his name is Debo! ABDA Registered American Pit Bull Terrier. He will be one year old on the 17th of August. He's got more energy and more muscle than either of us know what to do with. He is really kind and loving.

We started here...

In another year he will be fully grown. BTW, he thinks he is a lap dog also, Miss Magnum. I know a lot of Pit Bulls that are like that.

I currently have 3... all mutts off the street.

I have a 15 pound white/brown mutt
a 45 pound black mutt
and a 130 pound black/white mutt
love them all.
My 4 previous dogs were all mutts too.

I always wanted to buy a German Shorthair Pointer but
my wife and I always seem to pick up abandoned mutts.

When growing up we had as many as 12 dogs at once since my father
was a vet.

fattym4,
I would get a Alaskan Mal. I had one years ago. A female, her name was Lady. They are bruttish powerful dogs that are as loyal as sin. I currently have a yellow lab named Duke. Ya, ya I know! Real original name. See, we , our family, used to have two dogs, a male and female labs, but she died of kidney failure. Her name was Duchess. So we had a Duke and Duchess. Now we just have Duke and he is LAAAAZZZZYYYY. My next dog will be a...........drum roll please........English Mastiff. The ultimate BRUT. One of my X's had one and I now love them. Think I loved her dog more than her.(Hell knows the dog was smarter and cared for me more than she did.[:D])

mtnpatriot,
If you breed them I will give one a super home. Lots of acreage to run, etc., Make mine a big male, the bull of the litter [:D] keep me in mind OK???? Got anymore pics?

I'd like to get a female to breed with Abe but it probably won't happen for a while.  So if you know someone who has a female, drop me a line and maybe we could work something out.
