that is a dedicated 20a receptical. that means only one receptical per breaker.

Some window air conditioners and old copiers use 20A plugs. Maybe the floor buffing machines need 20A? Shok |

yea i know. i got a bunch of the 15 AMP receptacles for a buck each. different ones were selling for anything from 1.00 - 3.00 each but they all looked the same. i was told the circuit breaker protects the wire so i used the 15 amp receptacles with #12 wire and a 20 am Circuit Breaker. that way you could never overload a receptacle because you can't get 20A plug to fit in a 15 AMP receptacle. the 20 amp also looked odd and i thought if i ever had a 20 amp device i would need a dedicated circuit. |

Not a whole lot of devices use them, because most outlets circuits have been standardized to 15 AMP circuits, and most equipment has been made to comply. Only a few "permanent" devices, like air conditioners, will use them.
Commercially, 20A equipment is common, but they use the superior twist-lock connectors (NEMA L5-20) vs the bladed "Edison" plug. -Troy |

It depends on whether it is 110v or 220v .
Both use a plug like you desribe but the 110v plug the blade that is sideways is on the(stops to go look) right if the ground prong in on top. A 220v 20 amp plug it is on the left. There are plenty of 20 amp outlets that are duel outlets just like in your home, almost all commercial buildings have them. The right slot looks like a sideways "T" |
