With all the poker shows on TV now i am trying to learn how to play. I like texas hold'em and omaha. The question is when you play againts other players in these games right? So how does the house make any money on the game? Also the only thing i don't understand is the blind. Have read the rules but that part is not too clear. Thanks

The blind is your bet. It is low and high and is set at the beginning of the game depending on if you play a tournament or not. Most people play a tourney.

My guess is the house always will take a cut of the winnings.

The house makes money due to the rake on each hand played. The amount of money in the pot determines this. The blind is a "blind" bet into the pot before the hands are dealt. This is to ensure that there is a pot to actually bet on and to set a minimum betting standard.

Then why does the 2 people to the left of the dealer only bet on the blind?

The blind is a forced bet to make sure there is some action on each hand.......and yes the house makes a certain percentage of each rake.......Blinds rotate just to the left of the dealer button. The last person to bet has a better "position" since they have now seen how everyone else will play the hand, so therefore has a slight perceived advantage. The deal always rotates so the position is shared, even if you are at a casino there will be a dealer "button" that rotates letting everyone know who is on the button, and who the small and big blinds are.

It gives the other people a chance to fold if they have a sucky hand. But most people pony up even if they have a shitty hand just in the hopes that they will get a good deal on the flop.

The player to the left of the dealer is the little (or small) blind. The player to his/her left is the big blind.

For any remaining players, they must match the big blind to stay in (or whatever the current bet is). Blinds can be raised on a time interval as well (every 30 minutes double it or what have you).

As for how the house makes money, someone said it before, they just take a certain percentage of the pot.

That's called the rake. They take a slice of each pot.

When you run an online gig like PartyPoker, with hundreds of thousands of pots a day, the $$ adds up quickly.

It depends. It is usually stepped depending on the pot. It usually starts at about 5% on a little pot. But if the pot is over a certain amount, it is usually like $5 flat or something.

Player 1 starts out with little blind. Player 2 will throw in big blind. Big blind is always bigger than little blind, hence the name. Players 3 and up will throw in minimum big blind (which is now the current bet) to stay in (or they can raise). When the betting returns to player 1, he/she will call the current bet (which may still be just the big blind). Did that answer your question?

Both blinds are forced, the big blind is the minimum bet to stay in the hand, the small blind must call the big blind, if nobody raises, to see the flop in T'holdem.
