Because it attracts some real asshats wanting something for nothing and will do anything to screw you.

My wife put a DDR memory module (NIB DDR400 512mb kit) on to sell. It sold for 41.00 and she shipped it out 4 days later. The guys sends a nasty email stating the memory was damaged and not what was described. He went on to claim "vengence" (his words) and contact the state att. office and the local PD to file "criminal" charges of fraud. I emailed him back informing there were no warrantys expressed or implied and that he should go to the manufacturer. He sends several more threat emails and gets down right slanderous. I told my wife to just refund the $$$ and get the items back. The guy went through Paypal dispute res. and we refunded through them. He then send email stating he wants the $$$ submitted directly to him and to go around Paypal policy. Had we done that the guys could have kept both the $$$ and the memory (which prob. works). He said "If you do not refund directly, I will have the local PD arrest you on fraud charges and get the St. Att. office on you.
Well, a quick call to a buddy of mine in PD put me with the detective in charge of internet fraud at the PD. After explaining the situation, he laughed for about ten seconds and said "If you sent him a box of rocks and not the item there still is no way he can get the PD or SA office after me. Maybe in his clouded mind.

Anyway I have barred my wife from using ebay or Paypal and as soon this is resolved I am canceling both. Asshat needs to send back our items and Paypal will refund his $$$. Last time I deal with this crap. Anyone else have a ebay horror story????

UPDATE 10-11-05... Well, looks like PAYPAL released the refund and I got the item a day later. The PC memory works just fine so I still think I was being scammed. Lucky for me I got the items back.
When I logged onto the net a few minutes ago I noticed a funny thing. An email from PAYPAL stating that they reviewed the case and awarded me a credit for the refund. WOW! Got my items back and was credited back. They said due to my good rep with them and the questionable actions of the buyer, they decided to award my monet back. Oh, well.
Now the buyer is real pissed and emailing me. I have deleted all emails he send without reading them. PAYPAL made a ruling and I have washed my hands of it. Loks like PAYPAL did good by me for once. I still hate them for the anti gun policy though.

Don't get me started.

The buyers from hell are all over Ebay. Been there, done that.

The ones I like (not) are the ones who do NOT read the terms and then BITCH when you do what you say you will do.

Ebay sucks.

fuck em (ebay/paypal)

I cancelled my account and don't mess with them.
It was only so long before the integrity of the site was exploited.

Fuck Ebay.  I've been burned a few times myself and finally just stopped using it.

OTOH
I've never had a deal go bad on this board.  I've traded parts worth several hundreds of dollars all based on the honor system and good faith of the members here.  I've never been disappointed or screwed over once.

So I put 3 Dishnetwork receivers on Ebay. They sell on a Friday, I print out the shipping label, and plan to take to the post office on Monday morning. Which is well within Ebays shipping time frame. Well Sunday i get an email from this joker saying he better have the receivers by Monday or else. I respond (first mistake was not using ebay to reply, as my ebay email addy is my email at work, Air Force contractor) and tell him they are being shipped priority mail Monday morning. This does not satisfy the prick, he emails me back and says he better get a refund within three hours of this email, or I will call the wing commander, jag office, anyone to tell them that you are ripping people off on ebay. i email back and say okay, i will refund your money. I have my paypal account setup, so that whenever i receive a payment, it transfers straight to my checking account. So I submit the refund, paypal tells me it will take 3-4 business days to process the funds back from my checking. Monday morning this prick has called everyone on base including my boss. At this point, i am super pissed. I resolve everything with the people here, my boss says if he calls again, we will sick thee company lawyers on him. Anyway, he does call again, I tell him to quit calling or he will get a phone call from the lawyers. I continued to receive hateful BS voicemails on my cell phone(gave him that number if he wanted to do some more bitching. Anyhow, watch what you do on ebay, there are some lowlifes out there. This punk lives with his mom, and has ripped alot people off with his so called online video game store. Sorry just had to vent. My first mistake was linking my ebay account to my work email. live and learn i guess.

Well it's in Paypal's hands now. They will not release funds to him until I get the item. That is not to say IF he sends the items back that they will not be in PIECES. He emailed me again threatening to call local PD. I called them after I got the email again and the detective said not to worry about it. The Detective knows I'm LEO and we have mutual friends in the S.O. I work for. It's not a problem. I'm currently blocking him from emailing me. I don't want my wife getting upset over this. Here's the latest situation I dealt with on eBay.  I sold a Sony home theater receiver, only to not hear anything from the buyer for two weeks following the close of the auction.  I filed a dispute with eBay, and finally hear something from the buyer over a week later.  I finally received payment 31 days after the end of the auction.  So, I contacted the member and told them that I would ship the item with the same urgency as which payment was sent.

So, 31 days later I shipped the receiver!

I've done right around a quarter million dollars in ebay sales with very little problem. Of course you get the occasional buyer who isn't going to be satisfied no matter what you do, but that's just life. Out of all those transactions I've had maybe 6 problems with non paying bidders or psychopaths, with non paying bidders being the majority.

I've done a few hundred transactions on ebay, buying and selling.  Had a total of TWO go sour.

One seller of 500gr lead bullets took my $$ & never shipped the product then whined when I left negative feedback.  About 8 months later I got a msg from a mediator about withdrawing my neg feedback if we could resolve the transaction.  That failed as promptly as the first when the seller(ripoff) wanted more $$$ because HIS costs had increased since the time of the first transaction.

The other was a buyer used Buy It Now & would not reply to any emails for 1 week.  I sent one last FIRMLY worded msg and he replies within minutes complaining that I was trying to extort money from him and that he was going to have ebay ban me  After another week I left neg feedback, simply stating he was a non-paying bidder.  Nothing more.  Minutes later he replied/rebutted in jibberish.  I followed up with "non-paying bidder, head case too".

About two weeks later he was banned.

I have recently purchased AR15 parts on ebay and will continue to do so.  I will continue to use paypal for firearms transactions too.

You can still use the police if you get ripped off on ebay. a girl from the town I live in was selling concert tickets on ebay. some guy from out of state paid $400 for them. The guy just called and e-mailed the local police and went to the girls house. She said she won them from a local radio station. the station said they had no record of this. She had to refund the money. I heard this from the same officer who took care of this matter. I have to ask him if they could of charged the girl if she didn't pay back the money.
IF I SENT MONEY TO SOMEONE AND THEY DIDN'T SEND THE PRODUCTS I WOULD PAY THEM A VISIT. I'M JUST CRAZY LIKE THAT.I once drove 200 miles to get even with someone who stole something from me. lets just say his car didn't like being started without oil in it.mess with the bull you get the horns.

Why do you think things on eBay are cheaper than you can buy in your local store?

Because to get the cheaper price, you have to add a little something to the eBay price to make up the difference.

It is called "risk".

Risk tolerance varies from individual to individual.  Adjust accordingly.

Your problem is with a person - not with Ebay or Paypal.  The Web does not cause certain bad behaviors - it only reflects the lacks of honesty and morals that are present throughout our society.

If you eliminated Ebay - do you think all these people would suddenly change their ethics?

Ebay sucks but you can use it to your advantage. I always state on anything electronic that it is sold AS IS and I put this in bold at the begining and the end. I also email the winner and let them know that it works in my machine or that I have no way to test it, make sure that they know there are no returns and it is billed as is, and things are fine.

He sounds like he is just trying to rip you off. Also get the paypal debit card and take out the cash IMEDIATELY after getting it, and only link it to a free bank account that you do not ever use that way they can't suck money out of it. If you learn to work the system you can come out on top

My worst situation I was selling a PDA and it went for $250. I had a buy it now on it and some kid bid on it. Then said his MOM wouldn't let him get it. Long story I had to relist it. Being computer equipment it looses value every month and i had to eat the commision and listing fee and relist as I didn't want to wait for ebay's 30days for non-paying. They don't have a policy for buyers who REFUSE to pay and tell you so. I'd like to beat that kid seven ways to silly, and kick his Moms ass and flatten her tires and stomp on their cat as well.
