Any one here drive one? Looking at a used with 32,000 miles for a daily driver and weekend fun truck. 4 cylinder and 5 speed, what kind of mileage to expect, and will it pull a small aluminum bass boat. My current ride gets 12 mpg, and it's killing my weekend runs.. Thanks Fullclip

I like mine quite a bit (1998 4x4) but it has its flaws. Locking hubs are problematic and 3.0 v6 is gutless. Mileage is only 17 mpg or so.

My wife had a '97 Ford Ranger XLT and it was one fine truck.

I have a 2005 with the 3.0 v6, I love the truck. i think it is a pretty great truck. It goes pretty quick, and has good torque for the highway. The 4 Cylinder gets decent gas mileage.

But I baby my v6, and I get about 21 in the city.

Damn good trucks. I put 220,000 miles on a 97 model four banger and five speed. I put 175,000 miles on a 95 four banger five speed. Didnt have any trouble with either one. I would recommend these trucks.

I have a 1995 with two busted hubs, now its a 2wd till I get them fixed. the 3.0 is weak. I get better gas mileage in my 2005 Chevy Avalanche.

I have a rwd '97 3.0 liter w/ 5spd manual
best mileage i've gotten out of it is about 23, mostly highway.
back and forth to school here is about 18 or so
yeah, the engine is gutless.
It is definitely a worthless piece of shit in winter or if the roads are damp...

Get the 4.0 V6 if you want to tow.

I gotta 2000 super cab 4x4.

With biggerr tires, V6(4.0), and a 3' lift I get about 19mpg.

It's been a good lil truck.

I got about 31 miles per gallon on the road at 65mph. Just normal mixed city and highway I got about 24mpg. It should pull a small aluminum bass boat if you dont plan on going 70mph. Fifth gear is a overdrive and they lack pulling power in fifth. Fourth would pull it fine however and it is still pretty high geared enough for highway driving.

I have a '97 XLT, 4.0L, Auto, 4x4 and it gets about 16 city and 18-19 on the freeway and it has 3.97:1 gearing. Dependent on the engine/transmission/gearing they can pull quite a bit, the manual says mine is rated to pull 5000lbs.

I have a 2001 Ranger Edge with the V6 4.0 it does move out. Only thing I don’t like is how finicky it is on shifting. Going from first to second can be a pain sometimes, other than that I love my Ranger. I get about 18-19 mpg city or highway.

I have the same truck, mine shifts fine though. I've got over 96k on it and the only thing I've had to replace is the tie rod ends. I get around 20mpg with bigger than stock tires and a lead foot

Edit: I used to have a 98 Ranger with the 2.5 4cyl and 5 speed. I want to say I got around 25mpg, never had any problems with that truck either.

I love my 2002 4.0 2 wheel drive supercab. I get about 20mpg and it has plent of get up and go. I towed my buddies full size 4x4 chevy when it broke down on him. So I am sure it will tow a boat no problem.
