I know this has been kicked around a little bit here in the past, but this subject just came up here in the office and I'm wondering, if the GOP put up Condi Rice we know the Dims would absolutely be forced to put one up as well. I think Hillary would have to be it for them, but it appears to me that she is nearly un-electable. Who would the Dims go to?

Well, one of the most populous states has already elected her to public office and she is very popular with a lot of democrats.  Rice, on the other hand, has never held elected office and would be running from a party whose demographics are very different than her own.  There is no way Rice could win (against anyone).  Hillary would definitely beat her.

Rice will lack at least some of the Republican white vote because she is black, and she will not pick up very much of the democratic black vote because it is contrary to African American social norms to have a woman in an authority position.

This said, I WOULD vote for her, but I don’t think she is very popular with most Americans

It seems to me that nearly ALL republican women would vote for a female Prez, no matter the party. Most blacks would vote black, no matter what. Seems like having a black female could be a grand slam for the republican party.

I agree that Condi would have a decent shot against Hillary. As much as some around here wouldn't like a black Pres or VP I have found that they would detest Hillary much more. Something about that bitch just makes people hate her Hillary got elected Senator in New York because Rudy got cancer and dropped out of the race. By the way I don't care for him either but he is better than Hillary. Condi could be my President anyday.

Why? Is it because you think most would shy away from a black female?

If the Dims ran Hillary, she would get the feminine vote. Who would the GOP run against her?

I am already making plans to obstruct my mom, aunt and grandmother on election day in 2008. They have stated they would vote for Hillary for the simple fact that she is a woman so after I vote that morning (against Hillary) I will have to do something in order to draw their attention away. It has to be something that won't screw up any future 4473's though Any ideas are welcome, drawing down on them is probably not a good idea though

I and every other freakin' libertarian/republican gun toting and non gun toting person I know personally would vote, in a heartbeat, for Condi.

We should put her up there, not because she's a woman, not because she's black, but because she's friggin' brilliant.

I think Hillary is going to run but to be honest, I'm not sure we're ready for a black woman president.  I hate to sound racist because I'm not.  I would vote for her in a heart beat however from my own experience of running for office when given the choice between a man and a woman, even if the woman is more conservative the men voted for the man.  That tells me that if given the choice between two women the conservative men would vote for the white woman.  Somehow I think the 3rd party [and we all know there will be one] would prevail here.  Not necessarily win mind you, but pervail.

Condi is more likely a VP pick. She's never run a national or even state campaign, so she's a complete unknown as a candidate. Here career so far has been appointive, and interacting with voters can be a tricky business.

I think Condi would be great but she really wouldn't get through the primaries. It will be someone like George Allen or Frist,  McCain and Rudy have a shot as well . The sad part is McCain or Rudy would easily win the Presidency against Hillary but they are all really the same kind of politician.

Have to agree that she would be difficult to elect.

The "Black Leaders" such as Jesse Jackass will portray her as an "Aunt Tom" who sold out to Whitey...

The Southern Conservative Dems--the "Good Ol Boys" who might vote Republican just on the gun control issue (no doubt that hurt that bullshittin' Yankee Kerry) wouldn't vote for her.

Some Dem. females would vote for her.

Ideal would be her as VP.  Less immediate focus on her from the Left.   Would hurt the Dems some because she is the first Viable (Ferraro, yeah RIGHT!) VP female AND minority candidate for VP.

Given a good, popular choice for Pres, she could be very electable as VP.   Give her 8 years in that position, and then she could make it as Pres.

No not at all, even though I am sure that would come into play if she did run.

She is unelectable because she has never been    elected, ever...
She has no record, I don’t think that it’s even a consideration, even in her mind. (Yet)
Talk about her running is just like talk about Colon Powel running in 2000 the media might
press the issue and force her to say that she is considering it, but it’s not going to happen.

As far as Hillary goes...

She may get on the ticket as Vice President ( This is where Condi would be VERRY elect able and well suited to run against Hitlery ) but,
Even then the Dems are still hard pressed to find some one in the party who people will vote for
AND be able to carry her weight...

But, what do I know.

It be along the same lines as Janice Rogers Brown being nominated for SCOTUS. The left would be freaking out since they would now be the victims of the PC crap they have created. It would bve very hard for them to attack either one of those two great women.

But remember what Chris Rock said about a black vice-president...   he ( or she in this discussion ) would not be vice-president for long.

Chris Rock-

"You ain't never gonna see no black Vice President. Not while the President is white. You know why? 'Cause some black guy would kill the President, that's why. Shit, I'd do it. If we got a black Vice President right now, I couldn't wait to kill the President. What are they gonna do? Put me in jail with a bunch of black guys that will treat me like a hero for the rest of my life? Shit, even if they had the death penalty, what would happen? I'll get pardoned by the black President!"

He is too damn funny!

Seriously, Condi has my vote ( she has verbally expressed how she think the 2nd Ammendment
is very important from her own life experiences )  but I dont think there is a presidential candidate with enough balls to let her be the VP candidate...

REPEAT AFTER ME:

The -  Presidency -  is -  not -  an - entry - level -  government -  executive -  office.

That's why neither Condi (never elected to anything...even school board) nor Hillary (no executive experience and in the Senate only because she married up) will be serious candidates for President.

I doubt she's that brillant. She's a yes woman for Bush. The only thing I have seen her do right is claiming the 2nd is an individual Right. Wow, that makes her have real brillance.

Condi is a very good speaker and I am positive she is very smart. But just being smart and a good speaker is NOT what makes a good President. Bush not that well spoken and at some points, seems more like a college freshman than a President. HOWEVER, President Bush exhibits strength and strength of character. I am sure most liberals would say that Kerry is "brillant" and would have a good debate to put up, but the guy is a spineless worm and couldn't make a executive decision if it was handed to him. Strength, moral courage, intellengence and the ability to make an very hard decision after working a problem is what's needed to be a good President.

I will never recognize a woman president. Period. Nor will I ever vote for one. If the Republicans put Condi up for president or vice president, I will not vote or I will vote for a third party. But I have not found any third party, yet, that I would vote for. If we ever have a woman president, the world will lose a lot of respect for us. Period. I don't care what the world wants, but I do want the rest of the world to feel that we play from a position of strength and a woman will never exhibit this. We are the MOST powerful nation in the world, we need a leader that will have the rest of the worlds attention.

On point one, your a fucking idiot then. Really. Check out her resume.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condoleezza_Rice

In 1974, at age 19, Rice earned her B.A. in political science (cum laude) and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver. In 1975, she obtained her Master's Degree from the University of Notre Dame.  In 1981, at age 26, she received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. In addition to English, she speaks Russian, French, and Spanish. At Stanford University, Rice was an Assistant Professor, Political Science (1981-1987), Associate Professor (1987-1993), tenured Professor of Political Science (1993-July 2000),  Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a Senior Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. She was a specialist on the former Soviet Union. Rice has written or collaborated on several books, including Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995), The Gorbachev Era (1986), and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984). n 1986, while an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, Rice served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

From 1989 through March 1991 (the period of the fall of Berlin Wall and the final days of the Soviet Union), she served in the George H. W. Bush Administration as Director, and then Senior Director, of Soviet and East European Affairs in the National Security Council, and a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. In this position, Rice helped develop Bush's and Secretary of State James Baker's policies in favor of German reunification. She so impressed Bush that he introduced her to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev as the one who "tells me everything I know about the Soviet Union.

It doesn't mention it right there, and I edited it a bit, but she was Provost at Standford from 1993-1999. If you don't know college terms, basically that means she ran the entire university's academic side (Presidents raise money, Provosts run the place).

Please let me know if your resume is equal. Anywhere.

MILLIONS of people have those credentials. Hell, I bet you personally know lots of 'em right? Statistically speaking if there are millions, you must know some of 'em.

Oh yeah, so many people have been Provost of a major academic institution, acknowledged experts in International Affairs, Special Assistant to the Director of the JCS, Senior Director to the NSC, fellow at the CFR, on the board of the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Transamerica Corporation, Hewlett Packard, The Carnegie Corporation, The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Rand Corporation, written a couple books, been National Security Advisor, and Secretary of State.

MILLIONS of people have those credentials. Hell, I bet you personally know lots of 'em right? Statistically speaking if there are millions, you must know some of 'em.

I'm the emotional one for using harsh language, but the guy who'd never support a woman president no matter what her credentials was, now he's beeing totally objective.

Well, there you have it. Me being emotional about this? I already stated why women will not exhibit the amount of strength this nation needs from a President. This IS a myopic sense of national and global politics. The mid-east look down on women. And you think they'll take one seriously? They'll take Bush seriously, because he's a man of character and strength. No woman will ever be held on the same level as a man in world politics. Only in America do you see people like you that are willing to put women on an equal footing in politics. I have a better sense of the "world" than you ever will. Spade, you and Older_Crow are looking at a persons resume and not being realistic about world politics. There is more to the world than Britain, Russia and the US. How do you think the countries were we buy our oil are going to feel about dealing with a woman President? Do you really think the Saudi's will respect Condi like they do Bush? If you do, you should spend some time over there. You don't have a freakin clue how the middle east and many other parts of the world look down on women.

And for your info, I don't "look down" on women. My wife has my respect and I ask her advice before making almost every decision. In America, we have wised up some and in a marriage it's "WE" instead of "me and you". That's if you want to make a marriage last. My marriage has been going on happily for 22 years. I doubt there are a majority of those here can say that. AND I WAS in the military back in the 80's, all through the 80's, when we were in the cold war. I know about MT and the Brits. I like them and I've trained with them. But I wouldn't have respected Margret Thatcher like I did Ronald Reagan. America needs another Ronald Reagan.

Like the commander in chief needs recognition from a keyboard commando...<<Snort>>

If he had to choose between Jimmy Carter and Margaret Thatcher he'd change his tune real fast,

Yeah, right.

If I had to vote between those two, I'd stay home. I'd never vote for a Brit for President anyway. And my prom date? She dumped the guy that asked her to the prom to go out on a regular date with me. I asked her to the prom, but she said it wouldn't be right if I took her there and she just wanted to go out with me. Prom date.

Whatever...that's your story and you're sticking to it...yadda yadda.
Any man who has a problem seeing a woman in a leadership position is either short sighted, or sexually frustrated (which is easily remedied once ya let her lib you up properly...)
Just a suggestion.

Why the hell are you bringing up your prom date?  Where did that come from?

We have much more in common that one would think:
19 years married
SGT in Army in the 80's
But I draw the line on Reagan.
His presidency was ok...fine leader and respected CIC, but his financial legacy was crap.
FWIW: if you served then you KNOW that the Commander in Chief is your boss...regardless of whether he stands or she sits to pee.

I see this as a benefit. They don't take Bush seriously because of character. For Christ's sake most of them hate his guts. They take Bush seriously because they have to because they are now afraid of him. Libya didn't open itself up because Bush is a man of character whom they respect. They were afraid US Marines were gonna take a tour of Tripoli again.

Rice has gone to visit many of these places as SecState. Some of them do get ticked that they have to deal with a woman. This, to me, is a good thing. I don't want the respect of these people. To me their backwards radicals who want us all to live in a 15th century world where they rule us all. Any shot we can give them is fine by me.

Just like Bush, they won't respect Condi because of who she is. They'd respect her because they know if they pissed her off B-52's would appear. It's the only language many of these countries understand anyway. They won't respect or listen to basically anybody like, say Kerry. Doesn't matter that he's a man, what matters is they know he'd let them get away with their shenannigans without any armed response.

Rice is a pleasant, attractive conduit for warmed over swill handed to her by the Bush administration.  When have any of us heard about her wanting a certain direction in policy?  When have you heard that the 'Rice element' would like to go in a certain direction, but she is supportive of the president.  You don't hear these things because they don't happen.  She's a blank slate.

Colin Powell, on the other hand, is a proven war leader, the mastermind of our brilliant gulf war one strategy, and was actively courted by republicans in the past.  You knew where he stood on many issues, not always in lockstep with the administration, but he handled himself well within the confines of his job and did what was necessary when the president chose a course.

It's time for a proven leader with moderate appeal and strong conservative values.  It's time for this man to step up.  This Rice talk is preposterous.  No one really knows what Rice stands for, and if it's a carbon copy of whatever Bush has been saying for the past year and a half, well, then, count me out.

Oh, come on.  The lybia thing, again?  If Lybia was scared of us, and the fear of our awesome arsenal is as effective a deterrent to obtaining WMD's is everything you think it is, why is Iran to boastfully and dramatically working towards nuclear status.

Could it be that they have calculated, quite correctly, that even if military action were necessary, it might be limited to air strikes for fear of putting even more strain on a military that is seeing many of its troops on their third combat tour in Iraq?

And North Korea.  The fear of Bush seems to be making them act weirder than ever.  They do exactly what they want, and our only hope is to entice them otherwise, with China's help.

Lybia is reaping economic rewards for its transformation, which is, indeed, fortunate.  But that's their choice.  Let's be realistic.

I'd consider voting for Colin Powell. I'd consider it very strongly. He is as you say and I like the fact that he's willing to stand up for what he thought was right, no matter who it was. He definately wasn't a "yes" man and I have to give him a lot of credit for that. And he's been a well respected political leader and military leader.

I say Condi should run for president. For the simple reason that when the liberals start slinging mud at her,we can accuse them of being racist.Since the liberals are ridden with "White Guilt",they will be forced to listen to Condi sling massive insults at Hillery without rebuttal.
