Guys,
I have 2004 F250 4x4 that looks brand new except for a recent addition of a very small dent in the middle of the tailgate. Darned if I know how the damn thing got there - I have a 4" kit on the truck so it's up pretty high. The dent did not scratch the paint at all. It looks like someone took their knuckle and gace the tailgate a good wack. I've heard of a few "paintless dent removal" techniques but I wanted to see which ones are BS and which are legitimate. Leave the ding...it's a truck...if you use it you will get more, so you might as well get the first out of the way...

If it's not creased try a toilet plunger... that's what they'll do at the body shop right before they charge you $500

Got my first door ding myself the other week
 I use my truck but I prefer to have it covered in mud, not dinged because some inconsiderate jerk wasn't paying attention. |

Paintless dent removal. Will cost you about $50. They use some special tools to push out the dent. I had a door ding in my BMW and the dude was an artist. Took his time and pushed it out. You cant see any blemishes.

On a hot day, put a small piece of dry ice in the middle of the ding. The hotter the day the better.

Nice looking truck-though it looks like an 04 rather than a 94  If you don't want to fix it yourself Dent Wizard does good work (at least around here). Otherwise, you can remove the inner panel of the tailgate and push the dent out from the inside. I don't suggest using a hammer against the sheetmetal, but a hammer againt a small block of wood will do it. The paintless dent guys will push it out with a small prybar-if you do the same just do a small amount at a time-otherwise you can break the paint. |

Around here, there are these so called dent "removers" who specialize in "fixing" dents and dings on car doors. The way they do it is that they have these specialized tools ( basically looks like a thick hard wire which is long and angled at the end - somewhat like the letter L - with a rounded tip on the short end) which they use to slip it between the doors double wall and slowly push the dent out from inside. Note: They DO NOT try to tap it out! They apply pressure on the dent by slowly "rubbing" it out with the rounded end of their tool.
@#*$! I wish I could describe the process better! But I hope you get the general idea.  I do not know if this will work in your case because I do not know how the tailgate of your truck is constructed. ... or If there is an "opening" where you can get to the dent. Second, I do not know either if this is possible to do since I think the metals used in tailgates are thicker than normal car doors. But FWIW, thats how they do it for small dents on car doors. Look for a place called Dent Doctor or Ding Wizard. They specialize in small dents for about $50 - $100.

$50-$80 for a professional to remove it.
My local car club arranges for a parking lot meet where we get the dealer's dent guy to come out and pull door dings at a reduced price while the victims sit around in Hooters and wait for their cars to be done. These guys can get out nearly anything. My truck got nailed by a falling branch at a camp site so I just pulled the wheel well liner out and rapped it out with a ballpean hammer ... pretty ghetto but it worked well enough. |

Paintless dent removal is the way to go. I had several taken out of both my truck and car. The guy charged $40 per panel. Good luck and nice truck (even if it is a Ford
).

http://www.e-mobileworks.com/homepage.html I had the damage my wife did to my truck appraised at a body shop for $1500. This dude took out 99.8% of it for about $100. He used to be a neighbor so I got a discount. When I sold the truck to CarMax they didn't notice the damage. |

I know where you're comin' from, I'm just giving you hell about it!  I freaked out the first time I put a ding in the Suburban. Now? To hell with it. I drive that thing thru all sorts of brush, small trees, etc. Gives it character!

Little dent HELL!
Looks like a good foot and a half is missing off the bed! I found that the best way to get rid of a small dent is to cove it with a BIG dent. Got my (then new) 1990 Ford STUCK between trees the first year I had it.After that,wasn't much afraid of the next one.Just replaced it this summer.'05 F250 PS CC,8'. All the dents are inside ,so far.Too damn long to get thru the woods,so I expect come deer season,it's gonna get ugly.Dave |
