I think he's talking shotguns.

I use a mossberg 500 20 gauge with federal 3/4 oz. barnes expander slugs. Works well.

I used to have a Benneli M1 ( not the super 90, but the original wooden stock HK Benneli M1). It was a tack driver with slugs... I kick myself in the ass to this day for selling it. However, you hardly ever see a used M1!

A Remington 870 with a rifled slug barrel (with integral scope rail) is supposed to be a good one. I forget the brand of barrel. Sorry!

I would guess a Tar Hunt but they are kinda rare and expensive
The savage bolt guns(210?) are supposed to shoot quite well

The old Ithaca 37 Deerslayers were very accurate with their rifled barrels and slugs. We carried them in our patrol cars.

Is there such a thing as an inaccurate shotgun? Seems a little strange to me....

Even WITH slugs.

Shooting slugs out of a smoothbore can produce fairly large groups at a distance.

I've put together several Remington 870's for guys--fully-rifled cantilever barrel, topped with a Leupold 2-7X Shotgun scope. Using Remington Copper Solid slugs the WORST one shot 3" groups at 100 yards. The best held to two inches.

I use a Mossberg Model 695 (no longer made, but common/cheap on the used market) and it shoots the same slugs into 3", using the same scope.

25 year old Mossy 600ast here. Have 2 870's and they have never left the safe during deer season. Won't ever get rid of that shotgun and won't take any other, deer hunting.

25 year old Mossy 600ast here. Have 2 870's and they have never left the safe during deer season. Won't ever get rid of that shotgun and won't take any other, deer hunting.

My 695 is only five years old, but I've killed 8-9 deer with it--and REALLY like it. It's ugly as sin with it's odd "pregnant" appearance, but it's fairly light to carry, functions well, has a dull finish and shoots consistently. I've posted this before but here is my target to check my sights last season:

I use a Remington 870 with a Hastings barrel and group 3 inches at 100 yards with a variety of ammo.

FWIW, Lichtfield is the shit at 50 yards, but won't group worth a motherfuck at 100. Why, I don't know, but it went from 3 slugs touching to 3 slugs barely on paper with the 50 yard increase.

Most fully rifled shotgun barrels are very good but like rifles, some shoot different loads better than others. My Rem 11/87 with a fully rifled barrel, shot just mediocer(3" groups) with a 2x tasco shotgun scope and remington copper slugs. I mounted a Burris 2x7x compact scope and changed to Win supreme high velocity it now shoots 1&1/4" groups at 100. It has accounted for two nice racks and several bonus antlerless deer.

I have a friend who has a Mossberg smoothbore bolt gun with a cheap 3x9 Simmons scope that shoots Win 1oz slugs into 1 in. clover leaf groups at 100yds. It even has an adjustable choke that is cranked to full choke! Go figure?
