My friend brought this up a while back and it came up again.  He was wondering if it would be a viable business.
I realize there are a lot of legalities and obstacles so it’s pretty much a hypothetical question so just take it as that.

Do you think it would be a viable business to take people on terrorist safaris where they were escorted to a location with probable terrorist movement so they could take a shot?
It would have to be coordinated with some sort of private security firm working in conjunction with the military and the intel would have to assure that the targets were terrorists.  I’m sure there are all kinds of other issues.

What do you think?

A business of murder. Brilliant.

I told him about the ethical aspect but he was certain there would be customers.  He thinks it's killing not murder.  I'm not sure I disagree.

I don't think there would ever be a shortage of customers, especially if you operated discreetly.

Additionally, there are PLENTY of lawless, America-hating areas around the world that would be fertile ground for something like this.

Not saying its feasible, but both supply and demand are taken care of.

Probably have to have your operating base outside of CONUS, otherwise you risk the feds shutting you down.

would be an "interesting" trophy head to display on the wall of your gun room

If you're going to do that, then just bring back gladiators and live human chess to the death on pay per view.

Vomitoriums anyone?

How about a nice orgy in honor of Bacchus?

Well, actually he also mentioned convicts with axes and stuff fighting at half-time during big sporting events.

Me too.  For different reasons sometimes.

I think the terrorist safari would go over better than the half-time gladiatorial games.

ETA: But I figured that if these ideas would find acceptance anywhere, they would find it here.

If he doesn't mind the liablity, both legal and moral, of overweight gun-show losers accidentally shooting (translation: murdering) innocent people, then it's a great idea.

The problem would be one of intelligence, and being certain that the people who were being targeted for killing are ACTUALLY terrorists.  If the U.S. military had actual proof of terrorist activity, I don't think they'd want to take a chance on some thrill-seeking tourist screwing it up for them, but would want to take care of business themselves.

I can imagine LOTS of tribal disputes in Afghanistan and other parts of the world that either side would be happy to resolve by "informing" on their suspected "terrorist" neighbors so that gullible U.S. Navy SEAL wannabee's could show up and kill them.

My guess is that any attempt to actually implement a "business" like this would land people in horrible thrid-world country prisons.

The idea is great in principle, and woudl probably have lots of takes (beyond the gun show posers) - but I don't think there is any realistic way of implementing it.

Great question LEGEND! I have been pondering this same question for some time myself. Maybe send some guys into Gitmo with .416 Rigby's.

Actually, I've long thought that since Africa is the safari continent, then there's no reason that some of the atrocious countries shouldn't get in on it too. Sort of a safari/mercenary role. How 'bout they open up a season on some of the warlord or government thugs in The Sudan who like to prey upon unarmed villagers? They're not used to their prey fighting back.

Hmmm...genocidal warlord safari...that's pretty good.

I'll tell him about that when I see him this weekend!

Enlist in the Infantry.... that would be easier.

I think he was thinking of a different type of clientele.

The big thing is that enlisting in the infantry guarantees you nothing. You might be doing kitchen duty on Guam. Plus, I'm too old now. But if one had the dough (I don't) and the inclination (I DO!) to rid the world of a few more maniacs bent on suffering and murder of innocent villagers, then the Sudan Safari would be sweet.
