I know California has all kinds of wacky dreams about serializing brass and bullets and making it identifiable for each firearm.  They want to be able to identify the gunman of a crime by a shell casing/firearm/registry of users system right?  There is a small flaw to this though and it is that you can just use a brass catcher and not leave any brass on the ground.

So how long do you think it will take the idiots to figure this out if they get all their laws passed?  Will they ever?  Do you think they would ban brass catchers if they realized this?  Wouldn't this trump the whole serialized ammo thing since the bullet would be deformed too much to serialize anyway?

According to their testing (this is what they say, not what I beleive) the serial number remains intact on most bullets they recovered.
