Okay so I bought my tv in the middle of November -04 Its a Toshiba 46 inch wide screen

Well last night we had a storm and it was plugged into a surge protecter a good one from apc, After the first powerful lightening struck I even unplugged it all together .

well it wont turn on now !

and the repair company is telling me up to a month before its fixed
Atleast its under warrenty  

All that porn wears out a TV fast.

warranty is good.  out of warrany is expensive

I bought a tv once that had a 1 year warranty.  It was an expensive TV and it quit on the 368th day I had it.  It just wouldn't turn on.  I was pissed and went around and around with the store and manufactorer to get it fixed.  They finally caved in and said they would fix it but it would take months.

I figured since they were going to fix it anyway I took matters into my own hands.  I wasn't going to wait months for a TV.  I now have a new TV that is identical and they got their broken one back the same day.

Figure that one out.

You were lucky -- most stores record the serial number on the receipt.

Did you try plugging it directly into the wall outlet?  It may be a fried surge protector, or a tripped breaker on the surge protector or the house.

Yeah I did try that , and I have other electrical equipment that is plugged into the same surge protecter and all of that works just fine ..( so far)
I think it might have fried the modem on my Tivo though but I dont know yet.

I have a 65" mitsubishi, and after 2 weeks, the red convergence got real bad...  When I would turn the TV on, in the upper right corner the red would be 3" off to the bottom.  After being on for 40 minutes or so, it would creep back to normal.

I called the store, and the guy says, "did you open up the TV and bang on the guns at all (they call the projection units 'guns')"?  I said, "Uh, this a brand new tv, so no, i didn't bang on the guns."

He tells me that's that I need to do, and I said, "No thanks."

He comes out, opens it up, and with the back of his screwdriver starts hitting everything and anything in the TV with a fair amount of force.  Nothing fixed it.

He said, "well, we will have to order a new board for it.  It will be about 4 weeks."

I told him to talk to the store when the part comes in, because that's where the TV will be.  I went to the store, and they replaced it for me...  Not only that, but I noticed the TV was on sale, so I got it pricematched to themselves

Wss the cable plugged into the protector too? Surge can come through it too. May people disconnect the power but forget about the cable.

Relax man, now you can take it to the range. All is not lost.

This sucks!

Wildboar is correct.  Many people plug the electrical cords of all their gadgets into surge protectors but forget about the cable/phone/T1 line etc. that is also running into them.  My guess is the path of the surge that fried your set was on the cable, and not the power.

Is there a fuse or breaker on the back of the TV?

crazy as it sounds, it might just fix it by itself. Just wait a couple days. My friends TV went out after a strong lighting storm one day, and it stopped working. But after a few days it was back to normal.

Let us no if it does come back on.

Did you use the correct remote?  Try the button physically on the unit? Measure the wall voltage?


Gotta ask obvious questions...................used to be TV repairman.

I tried all of that , I was wondering if  there is a fuse inside of it that I can check and if I open the unit will it void my warrnety?

Are you sure youre getting power from the wall?  Also a lot of these TVs have detachable cords, is the cord firmly into the unit?

Had a light go out in the kitchen.  It was one of those halogen lights with it's own little transformer.  New bulb did nothing.  Waited for the contractor to check it out and eventually it went back on by it's own accord.
