i have a new home computer.  I cannot use my ipod to put my music on it.  I do not want to re-rip every disc i own.  Can I transfer my music from my old computer somehow?  I have a laptop that can be used, or I can disconnect my old tower in my daughters room and carry it in here.  What's the easiest way to do this?  How do I do this?

I usually just burn the iTunes folder to a DVD.  Copy it to the new computer.  And say Add folder from the file menu

Actually, just set you iPod for manual so it doesn't auto update.  This way the iPod can be used as a HDD.  Then just copy the music into a folder and transfer it onto the iPod.  Plug the iPod into the new other computer and downlaod the folder.  Source iTunes to the new folder and you are done.

ETA -- I just read that you can't use the iPod.  Why?  If it is too full you can always wipe the iPod and then copy the folder and update the iPod after it is all done.  Don't forget to authorize your second computer if you have purchased anything off of iTunes.

i can use it for playback, just not to put music on my computer.  

regarding copying the music onto a disc, which would be the easiest for me, how can that be done?  I was once told that an audio disc will not be able to hold more music than is typically sold on them.  I have about 400 songs to transfer, would these all fit on a disc?

Put all of your mp3 files into a folder do a right click and properties to see how big the folder is.  If it is < 700MB you are GTG.  If not you can always divide the files between two CD-ROMs.
