Some say the end is near.
Some say we’ll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call la
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I’ll see you down in arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your cable and
Fret for your car.
It’s a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call la
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I’ll see you down in arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we’ll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I’ve a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom’s gonna fix it all soon.
Mom’s comin’ round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck l ron hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I’m praying for rain
And I’m praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don’t just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.
I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.

Maynard's an awesome lead. Saw them live at the Ft. Worth Convention center a few years back and they put on one helluva show. Definately a live band and not a "studio band". He never takes center stage, and I bet if he were in a group of people most wouldn't be able to pick him out. From what I hear he's quite the smart one.

I saw them on that tour at the 9:30 club in D.C.

GREAT show.

They have sort of lost it since then on their studio stuff.

Thanks for the lyrics I didn't know what the guy was saying through the whole song.

Learn to swim, I could make out.

Great lyrics, great song.

I could use a vacation from this shit.

"Learn to swim, I’ll see you down in Arizona Bay."

My favorite part.

Great song, great band.  They don't really have any popular modern contemporaries, although King Crimson did a tour with them and MJK was honored, and a little humbled.  He was worried that the fans would realize that Tool was a King Crimson rip-off, to paraphrase.

BUt don't you see the irony in it all?

This guy made this song like he's not part of this bullshit three ring circus. The same goes for people hear that agree with Maynard.

Meanwhile he's butt humping his bandmates and giving a shit.

My family can swim REAL good, hopefully so can his.

He made a song about your argument.  It's called "Hooker with a penis."  No, I am not joking.

I met a boy wearing vans, 501s, and a
Dope beastie t, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was ogt,
From ’92,
The first ep.

And in between
Sips of coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin’ out,
Layin’ down,
Suckin’ up
To the man.

Well now I’ve got some
A-dvice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I’m the man,

And if I’m the man,
Then you’re the man, and
He’s the man as well so you can
Point that fuckin’ finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I’ve sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

So I’ve got some
Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger
You should know that
I’m the man,
If I’m the fuckin’ man
Then you’re the fuckin’ man as well
So you can
Point that fuckin’ finger up your ass.

Dumb fuck.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on tv
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar

So...shut up and

Buy my new record
Send more money
Fuck you, buddy.

+1

Two of the five times I have seen them was in venues that hold less than 2000 people. All were excellent shows.  They are the only band that I think sounds as good if not better live.

I've had Tool cd's in my trucks cd changer for over 7yrs or so and have yet to take them out. I simply add as the new ones are released. Simply the best band out there. I've seen them in concert 2x, each time right up front. Also a big fan of A Perfect Circle..seen them in concert a few times also..........
The new Tool CD should be out shortly.

Undertow is a better album...but all TOOL albums rock.

You should try "A Perfect Circle"...Maynard's the lead...with a kick ass bassist.  I saw them in Nashville and they put on one hell of a show.

Most people don't have the patience for "Flood" or "Four Degrees."  Sad, but true.

I believe the "LA" he is referring to is Louisiana.....

The best thing about ambiguos lyrics is that they fit any situation.  Like "Flood" that I mentioned earlier.  In the context of the album it is about losing faith.  You can apply that to any part of your life that you wish.

<------Usually hates poetry, unless it has a great bass line.
