The former butcher and welder from Raleigh County recalled how he began his political career as a state legislator 59 years ago. He served three terms in the U.S. House before winning his Senate seat in 1958.


Former butcher and welder?  AHEM... how about former butcher, welder, and LEADER OF THE KU KLUX KLAN!?!?!?

He's a Democrat, so he gets a pass for bad choices earlier in his life.  If this were a Republican, the HEADLINE would read "Former KKK Leader to Run for Senate Again".
