I think all the newly manufactured fuel tanks are plastic.

I had to replace the fuel tank on my '78 truck some years ago. I replaced it with a galvanized steel tank.

PLASTIC if possible, does not rust, reasonably flexable, water does not condense as much inside tank, no seams to leak. more deformable in a serious crash.
