How about a completely different topic on ARFCOM?

I was blown away by Realism. How can they make PAINT look so lifelike? I mean, some of this stuff looks like photograph.

I agree some of that photographic quality Realism stuff is just amazing. But the older I get the more I find myself liking Impressionism. Might be because it looks the same whether I'm wearing my glasses or not. (just kidding ) I tend to like Monet's stuff the best.

A lot of stuff from the 1890-1929 period is very good, and the design was well integrated with everyday life. Arts & Crafts houses, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Beaux Arts architecture.

Some modern art just plain scares me, however, I am a huge Van Gough fan.  When they had his exihibit in the art institute in Chicago I was one of the first to see it.

The Renaissance.   Particularly Michelangelo's sculptures, I am awestruck at the detail.   I really need to travel to the Sistine Chapel and see his work there.   I remember seeing the before and after restoration work there in National Geographic, now that is artistic talent!!!!!!

I always loved the French impressionists, I was able to see the exhibit in '03 in Atlanta, it blew me. My favorite is Monet, Degas is a close second because of his "subliminal" lust for women.
Hey that was a refreshing OT post.

I am a big fan of the pre Raphaelite Brotherhood  ( 1849 to around 1896, though the Brotherhood itself ended well before that ) and Victorian Era...guys like Millais, Rosetti, Miller, Leighton, etc.
