Does anyone still use/carry this old soldier?

The original "wonder 9."

Single action like our beloved 1911s. I would think the arfcom crew would like them but I never hear anyone talk about them.

I was gonna get one, but went with the 92FS since I really don't like the mag disconnect.

I sometimes wish I had gotten one though.

Huh.

There's also the fact that my dealer spent two weeks on the phone trying to order one from FN and kept getting a run around.

My Browning HP is my favorite pistol.
I removed the mag safety and put a hogue grip on it, otherwise it's 100% stock. It puts holes right where I want, every time. 17+1 in a nice sized package.

being 6'3 280 i carry a BHP as my conceled carry weapon when i want to carry a smaller piece rather than my 5" colt...it is slimer lighter, smaller profile and i can carry 50 rounds in the same space as 25...

From the French Grand Puissance. When introduced, it was high powered compared to the most common pistol caliber in continental Europe at the time, 7.65mm.

CDNN sells the standard FN HP's for $400 + $10 shipping + Whatever your FFL charges. Mine had the mag safety removed within an hour of being in my house. Then add Navridex grip panels and I love mine.

I like mine...it is an FEG (Hungarian copy of the HP) and it has never jammed on me. Have a
couple of thousand rounds through it.

we don't use the "F" word around here. I love both of mine, one is a shooter the other a safe queen I'm saving for one of my sons.

It's a nice handgun for its era, I've owned three. I sold them though and got modern handguns. I didn't like the long trigger reset, the mushy safety lever and the need for a trigger job.....on each one. Plus rubber grips on a HP just about equal the circumference of modern pistols.

My first HP was an Israeli clone. That thing was a turd shaped to look like a HP. Avoid those. The other two were Browning and they were much nicer. If you do get one get a Browning.

it does about as much for me as the 1911... venerable pistol, but not my first choice in pistols. I don't collect firearms for value, I collect them based on tactical value and what it can do for me in a SHTF situation. That means:

Readily available inexpensive replacement parts
Readily available inexpensive highest-possible capacity magazines

If I buy a $2000 pistol with $50 mags, I'd probably avoid shooting/using it too often for fear of breaking something or reducing its value. Would you torture test your brand new Mk 23 SOCOM?

Argentina made 17 round mags that are very reliable. I had a bunch of them. They're being used by south africian police.

You can find good 13, 15 and 17 round mags here. They also have 20 and 30 round mags too but the reliability is questionable.

I have several of the KRD mags (I believe that's the S.A. mags you are talking about) all of my 17's work great, zero problems. The one 15 rounder that I have had some problems, it had a very rough finish on the inside and would load at all, a lot of work and it now is fine for range use. I'm betting it was just a bad mag, but I still won't buy any more 15 rounders, why should I when the 17's work so good.

These are the KRD S.A. 17's I have.
