Where were you when you first heard about the tet offensive1968,[ Viet Cong massive assault on  key cities and stratigic villages in south vietnam]and what was your initial impression and views at the end of January or early march of that year when the VC[viet cong,to their demise and downfall ] took warfare to the streets of Siagon[MACV] and all around Vietnam[1,2,3, and 4th corps of american military infrastructure,all branches] from khe sahn to can-tho and Tonal sap[Cambodia,U.S.special forces area of operations at that time unknown to U.S.civillians as well as the government in that country] to Cam rahn bay and Nha trang[east coast vietnam]  fighting to the death with sapper teams and infiltration forces with hundereds and even in some cases thousands of  highly determined shock troops highly motivated utilizing wave assault tactics and other desperate measures employed to overrun and annialate U.S. military personell at  air bases, installations and firebases and to wage seige engagments lasting months only to be broken in most cases by massive artillery bombardment induced into forward areas in some cases by means of airmobile transport or airstrikes[arc light B-52 air strikes rotating from a major air bases in guam and  air bases in the Phillipines and several forward stratigic air command bases in eastern Thailand[korat ubon, udorn N.K.P. and FB-111 fighter bomber squadrons in those areas  as well as elements of tactical air command detached and on station twenty-four hours seven days a week during tet around the clock].What was your initial impression of the war and the way it was conducted when Cronkite said that the war was in and of it's self unwinnable and what was your acessment at that time of the war in Vietnam?. Were you in  country or stateside at that time and where you young or at that age bracket where you were not to be trusted[over thirty].Please respond. What was your initial impression from watching the U.S.get suckered down the path of  false deplomacy with the north vietnamese only to have north vietnam bushwack the United States and be deceived through false goodwill and promises of some kind of  peace process to stop the killing and carnage on both sides.

I was a little kid so of course I was in the "junior" SF and only went on "kiddie" Black Ops.

Some of them little CIA kids were real bastards.

I was 11 years old. I don't remember the war all that well. My brother left for Vietman in 1971...I think. It wasn't until then that I took any interest in the war.

I AM old!!!  It was one year before I was drafted and went to Fort Polk for vacation.  

I was a grass seed waiting a year and a half later to be plant on a farm in Wisconsin. When i get big, a cow at a dairy farm will eat me, then the dairy farmer will get the milk and ship it to Texas so my dad could drink it  and use the protein to make squigglies.

I was visiting friends in Canada. I forgot to have my mail forwarded to me. I came back home in 73.

J/K  I was -2 yrs old

Kindergarten in the Philippines.  I was 5.

Dad was Air Force and did his tour later.

Preparing to deploy to Vietnam again.  By the time I got there later that year, Tet was a distant memory.

Well, I'll have to ask my mom. she was 17 at the time.

She hadn't even met my dad yet.

I was in the eight grade.  My brother's friends were in Viet Nam at the time.  There was a lot of concers in our neighborhood.

My older brother went in during the  Marine clean up in 1975.

Half of me was bouncing around in my dad's nuts somewhere around Chu Lai so my field of view was slightly obscured and I couldn't hear anything at all.

Sorry I don't have more to add but it was hot, damp and dangerous.

I was in a similar situation.  My Dad went to VN in November of '68 as an Armored Cav Officer with the 25th Infantry Division known as Tropical Lightning.  

I was a senior in high school.  

When I graduated, I tried to join the Air Force and Uncle Sam didn't want me.    

I was 6. I was either player marbles or looking up my babysitter's dress.

I was 11 at that time.  My Brother, who's 7 years older than I am, had been drafted right around then so the Vietnam war was on our whole family's mind.  I actually remember the whole Vietnam war pretty well.  Not in detail, but the overall direction and feel of it in direct relation to my Brothers progress though boot camp and AIT.

My Brother didn't go to Vietnam, but several friends of our family did and never came back.  I can't express in words how highly I regard those that served there.

I was in 2nd grade.

I was just a glimmer in my Daddy's eye.  He was in the 9th Infantry and during the Tet Offensive he was in or very close to Saigon.

I was a senior in High schol. Getting ready to serve.

I landed at Tan Son NHut Airport (Saigon) on Jan. 2, 1968 for my first tour.  We were actually getting shot at on our approach, so I thought, well this is going just fine so far !

Got to see the Bob Hope show at Phu Khat airbase that Christmas, then home for 30 days leave, and back to Pleiku for another tour (Six months was the standard extention of service then).

I was 7, I spent my time pissing off my sisters and female cousins.

I was at England AFB, LA. I returned from Vietnam in Aug of 1967. Because I had less than a year left in my tour of active duty, the Air Force asked me if I would re-enlist for another tour. They wanted to send me back. I declined their kind offer.
