It doesn't look good, but I hope they were able to get people off it before it became fully engulfed.

That's all they needed with all the traffic and trying to get out of harms way.  Hopefully no one got injured.

Fox reported sparks from the brakes ignited the gas tank, not an oxygen bottle onboard.

They are now reporting that no one made it off the bus. It exploded with all people on board. They are reporting at least 20 dead but could be more.

I'm seeing that some got off, Diss.  Multiple oxygen bottles exploding in sequence, though.

See all the SUVs behind it hooking off into the countryside?

CNN just had a close up of the bus with blue tarps over ALL of the seats and reporting up to 20 dead on the scene....all elderly folks from a nursing home.

O2 bottles most likely.

Take it off for now. Nearly any device would have changed the shape of the frame or blown a hole in it. The frame is perfectly intact, with just the skin of the bus burnt off.

local news reporting 24 dead all were elderly 79-101 years old from a nursing home in bellair (township in houston). some of the people were wheelchair bound. after the fire started the o2 tanks did explode. s.o. deputies and police tried to save the passengers. but they were forced back due to the exploding o2 bottles.

thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and there families

As terrible as the drownings were at the LA rest home, I wondered at the time how unsafe it would be to evac multiple old folks on oxygen or bad hearts, etc....
Seems to me sheltering them in place has fewer overall risks than transporting them.  Looks like you are bound to lose some of them one way or the other.

At any rate, this is a real shame.  What a horrible way to go.

I wouldn't rule out static electricity.

Latest reports are 24 dead, 12 in the hospital. Witnesses reported a fire in the rear area of the bus, possibly a brake fire. Also some issue with a tire being changed yesterday. Traffic reporters could see the O2 bottles cooking off this morning.

Traffic is bad in that area every day without the extra cars. Stop and go traffic, a flat tire or a brake pad problem......a fire isn't hard to understand.  Hell of a way to go.
