What countries military could give the US military the hardest time in a war.
What country is the US militaries greatest nightmare.

The only term of this match is that no WMD could be used.  Either side can adopt whatever  other means possible to win the war.

My bet would be a war agaisnt China for Taiwan

Israel has one tough ass military.  Anyone crazy enough to go nuclear or biological on us.  But I think the days of traditional "war" are over.  The one possibility to prove me wrong would be China.  Or canada.

China and a militarily unified European Union.  Worse yet, China AND a unified EU.  A "United States of Europe" will eventually happen, and it won't be good for us.  They'll kill us with treaties designed to weaken us if the Dems get back into power, and the Dems will be eager to sign them.  An actual war won't even be necessary for them.

North Korea would be the number one hardest country to fight, it would be virtually impossible to go into the country and fight them. I would have to give China a close second, and the fact that half of the stuff bought in america is made in china, therefore funding our number one enemy. So were pretty much buying the guns that are going to be used against our children when we go to war with China.

I don't think so. The whole EU thing has reached it's zenith and is on the downside now IMHO. I think we'll see seperate currencies on some level once again within a decade or so, just as an example.

So far as conventional military threats, I think North Korea would give us the biggest problem. We would cream them ultimately, but those people are fanatics. Number two would be the Chinese.

We ran them in to China back in 1950 with little trouble using WWII technology. They are really no more powerful now than they were then. This nuke business is nonsense. They can talk all they want but they don't have nukes. And if they did, they couldn't reach the U.S. We can definetly reach them. NK on their own would be a pushover.

Old Europe is in a demographic death spiral. In a generation they will be complete economic and military non-entities Currently they have a barely credible military. In a few years, not even that.

Maybe true for now, but you can't deny that the motive behind their unification efforts is to undermine and weaken the US.

Your questions are rather broad in nature so I'll do the best I can.

I have to agree with you and Combat_Jack.  The thing is, if China were to ever followed through on attaking Taiwan, too hold it, they would almost certainly have to take Japan, the Phillipines and South Korea when they did it.  It would almost have to be a combined assault on all four targets with the assistance of North Korea and perhaps Vietnam.  This would no doubt turn into WWIII not to mention the fact that we would almost certainly know it was about to happen at almost the same time the Chinese knew it was about to happen due to our survelance.  This would quickly turn into WWIII.

China would be able to take Taiwan in a conventioal war but it would not be able to hold Taiwan if they didn't take Japan, South Korea and the Philipines in a conventional war.  The USA would either take it back or we'd turn the entire island into rubble.

The consequences of China attacking Taiwan would cripple the Chinese economy.

The biggest nightmare for the USA would be an unpresidented invasion of the lower 48's.  Not even China is up to that.

In a conventional war we could not defeat and occupy either Russia or China, no matter how hard we tried. We could defeat and occupy N Korea but only with massive casualties. A unitified Europe? Hard to say, I think we might be able to do it.

No country.  Right now we are in a period of ascendancy.  Yes we have much to overcome...but no nation can hold a candle to the United States.

Our biggest enemies are our own crazy liberals/progressives/socialists.  THEY are the only ones who can really destroy America.

We, the capitalist, [relatively] rich, [mostly] Christian nation stand in the way of the Left's brainless utopia.  Even though the Soviet Union is gone...they flatly refuse to accept the crystal clear FACT that communism is and shall remain a failed religion.  THAT is why they HATE all things Reagan...Bush...and conservative.

I too agree that it would be about a decade before any one country could be considered a real threat. However the chinese would be that threat.

Nope the sheer numbers of thier military would be a force to rekon with let alone the training these guys do is amazing and they train all day, they are highly efficient in hand to hand as well as fire and maneuver tactics. But dont believe me, I am a fat white kid thats never been out of mableton ga.

Well keeping things in perspective in a "conventional" war I say Iran would be the hardest. Why? Because while China I feel is the overall biggest threat Iran has no nukes. If we ended up in a war with China nukes would be used so it would no longer be conventional. If the whole Taiwan thing was to go down and we ended up at war with China I think Russia would actually stay out of it.
I really dont think any country can even come remotely close to the U.S. in a conventional war in fact I would dare to say that we could probably take on every major military at the same time with an activr draft and civilian armed groups and not lose a war.(probably not win either though)
But if we attacked China im sure they would react with nukes.

China will become our greatest threat in the next decade or so. They depend greatly on the US dollar for their military money now, ironically enough. You'd have to be pretty dense not to see that CHina is working on its domination of Asia and the Pacific.

North Korea is just a little puppet of China. They're nowhere near the threat of China and their military is a joke compared to China's. Their soldiers do not compare to ours. China and North Korea rely on tactics of numbers. Our soldiers are a far superior product whereas the Chinese and NK use troops like cannon fodder. They just keep swarming until they overrun. In ten years, if there's a war with China, you bet I'll be ready to kill me some reds.

That's why we keep our own nukes for a deterrent of the use of nuclear weapons. England is and will always be our ally. Finland and the Swiss have no beef with us nor will they in the future. They are pretty neutral for the most part.

Finland and Switzerland would be defeated in a matter of days by our military.

Russia is not a direct threat to us. If war broke out between us and China, they Ruskies might underhandedly give support to the chinamen. Then when it's not looking so good for the chinamen, they might decide to switch to the winner's side.

Right now, either China or Russia. A unified EU will not attack the US in the forseeable future. North Korea is so short on food we could probably just starve them into partial submission with hard core blockades/moving everyone out of their artillery range. China has some old technology, but A *LOT* of troops and is only getting stronger. Russia is kinda the opposite - some not-too-shabby technology and a good military but they are only getting worse for the most part.

But if you include illegal immigration as a weapon, Mexico is the most immediate threat.

IRAN

They are doing a number on us already in Iraq. It is they who are keeping the insurgency alive.

And...if we went to war openly with them, very, very soon it would involve ALL of Islam (the Iranian mullahs would see to that)...and then ALL BETS ARE OFF...

Because there are BILLIONS of Muslims out there just waiting to fight the Great Satan.

Hundreds of thousands of them are now living within our borders and are "Americans"...
