I used this phrase when telling my calculus class this morning to turn in their exams.  No one got it.

Though my dog was shot when I got home.

You thought a class full of students would get that kind of reference? Most of them I guarantee think firearms are evil.

It would be funny if someone responded "Come and take them!" "Molon Labe!" Or "From my cold, dead hands!"

But I even wore my Dianne Feinstein halloween mask and displayed poor trigger control when I said it!  They still missed the reference.

Not really.  I did not actually expect them to get the quote - I just felt like saying it in an unorthodox situation.

I also thought of it when I saw a movie poster today.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith, turn them all in!"

BAM!

You should have given them an A if someone fought to keep their papers LOL.

Most of the world, outside of ARFCOM, doesn't know anything about that statement.  Especially kids.

Good joke. Most of my teachers would say they is enough guns for 1 in every 12 to have one. I would like it if they would suggest ways to arm the other 11.

Well, I cannot carry at Tech so no draw downs.

I could give them a free coupon to a local carwash.

I would actually invite some of my kids to range if:
a) It did not entail fraternization that would cost me my job
b) They were actually of age to shoot without their parent or guardian
c) I could get some pictures of the tall brunette shooting

Yep. If he had added, "For the Children" a few might have stirred.

You're at a college right? Sponsor a shooting club. One of our EE professors in college did that for Trap shooting.

I would but there already is a shooting club.  I can never go to meetings because I have class.

When I was in undergrad I did manage to take a lot of the other students to the range.  Even rented a few Class III gigglers with them.

If you repeat that several times, someone will ask you what it means.
Then you get a small soapbox to explain where it came from
