Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Car/suv top carrier?

As I understand it the police can't search a locked area like a trunk.  What if you have a suv, does a lock box in the back or a lockable roof top carrier also qualify?

The more I hear the more I wonder the best way.

Thanks for any input, it will be much appreciated.

Car top carriers are treated as cargo areas, like the trunk.
If it's not in the "lunge"area (capable of immediate access), then they cannot search it without probable cause.
