Emergency landing with damaged landing gear. Foxnews.
Flight 292, originally scheduled from Burbank to NYC. It's been orbiting over the ocean for over an hour dumping fuel.
Front wheel is turned 90 degrees. They are going to attempt a 'soft landing'. Should be shown on Fox live.
OMG, the poor fish!!!! |
Someone forgot to hook up the torque links after pushback, or worse! |
It is actually burning the fuel off. |
Scarebus A320 can't dump fuel. They are burning it off. |
That has got to good on everybody’s nerves. |
Don't think they disconnect torque links on pushback, must be worse! |
No shit? Damn French are smart, no? |
What they mean is a soft field landing. This is done in airplanes (mostly light) if you are landing on an un-improved airstrip. What you are doing is trying to keep as much stress off the nose gear as possible. You land at the lowest possible airspeed, then you hold the nose off as long as possible. It's not a "soft landing"

Prayers sent for those passengers.
I will never get on an Airbus plane. Fucking eurotrash. Edit: CNN's coverage is (sadly) better. None of that weird split-screen bullshit that Fox has been doing lately. |
Can't preempt Bill O'Reilly |
mucho better, thanks |
How does Bush do it so well. First Katrina to get those Democrats in NO. Then Rita to follow those same Democrats now holed up in Texas, then a ton of financial aid to Texas (his home state), and now Jet Blue. Of course don't forget he never did tell what really happened to the AA flight that really didn't hit the Pentagon but used a cruise missile substitute. |
Stupid damned newscasters.
"The airplane was headed for New York, so it most likely had enough fuel to get to New York" No fucking shit. Who would have thought? |
Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. What an egomaniac. |

Would a front gear up landing be safer or gear down with wheels pointed in the wrong direction?
It's gonna get messy either way do they start a fuel dimp before landing to lighten and reduce fire? Prayers sent to them. |
This is actually an evil conspiracy hatched by the executives of ABC. The premiere of "LOST" is tonight.
Coincidence? I think not! |
First thing that came to mind, I know..........I work on RJ's! |

On the other hand, who gives a fuck? Foam, some sparks, down the slides, lawyer up, sue. It's an in-flight-emergency. The news is shiiting themselved hoping for bodies. I only wish it was a plane-load of reporters, and they wind up as as greasy red streak on the runway.
matthew p.s. hear we go again, cutting into Savage. I repeat, who gives a fuck? |
wouldn't it be wiser to land the dern thing in a soft field rather than on a hard run way? Patty
I should not laugh. but I did. |
Nope, he is busy with Dick Cheney keeping the Halliburton Hurricane Machine at full power for the new hurricane. The plan is to wipe out all of the black "evacuee's" that went to Texas. |
No. Landing in a dirt field causes all sorts of hate an discontent. Instead of sliding to a halt under control on a hard surface, you could dig in and die. |
I'm not sure you'd want the front gear to be able to dig in. That and I don't think there is a "soft" runway long enough. |
Wow, and I thought Klingons got a lot nicer after ST:TNG... |
Listening to Fox against my will. I can not believe the stupidity of the reporters and the "experts" they talk to.
Jeebus. |
It can't have been the pins or they couldn't have turned to taxi to active. They would have known the instant they pushed on a rudder peddle. Must be worse.
plus the foam on the runway will keep the aluminium from igniting |

My dad and I had a nose wheel that wouldn't lock one day, tried twice, no light. He looked over at me and said "what are we gonna do" ? My stomach was in a knot when he laughed, reached under the dash and pulled the emergency hydraulic handle for the gear and it locked I was scared as hell. Wasn't as bad as the time the oil pump went out in the motor when we were taking off from Reno one day. I bet all the people on that plane are making some deals with god or the devil at this very moment. Probably won't be that big a deal though unless the nose doesn't snap off and they take a hard turn due to the angle of the wheels and roll over. Highly unlikely though.

If jets/planes dump fuel it usually evaporates before it hits the ground. Its good stuff.
