I want to pick your brains about a problem at work, seems someone doesn't like me which in it's self does not bother me, however some prick pulled a end around move and wrote a complaint about me.
I heard about it this morning from my supervisor and when I asked to see the complaint they wouldn't show me or tell me who complained in fact they wouldn't even tell me what the complaint was or when it occured. In fact they told me that had it just been a word of mouth thing they would have not even bothered with it but because someone put it in writing now they have to deal with it. Well what ever "It" is I have to recertify on a certain task and then they told me it would be forgotten. Yeah right guess they are going to use those men in black memory erasers on everyone, I am pissed but not sure what else I should do to follow up on this, they asked if I had a personalty problem with anybody I thought I got along with everybody, I am very easy going but alas I guess that is not the case. I am a civi employee with the U.S. govt, and have worked at my job now for a few years with no complaints and have always passed my training certifications, and have great work reviews, so what the fuck. Someone is trying to fuck me and I can't even find out the who, what, where, or when. Anybody else deal with this? I am sure that there are alot of people who have. What did you do to combat the situation, and more importantly the damage that has been done to my work reputation? I am so pissed right now it probably was a good thing they didn't tell me who it was. Thanks |
WTF? won't even say what it is? how are you supposed to defend yourself if they won't tell you what the complaint was?
I have no idea, I had to do go ever the task at work today with one of the trainers hmmmm low and behold no problems. I asked him if he knew what the deal was and he said he asked but they wouldn't tell him anything either. He did say this was kind of fucked up, I was like this is even fucked up for the govt. I have to recertify friday. The best we came up with so far is to write up a rebuttal and have him, and when I recertify on fri the certifier write everything up to counteract the mysterious complaint.

Patriot Act. We have been searching your home while you were at work, too. Don't hide your porn anymore, it is too hard for us to find it.

And don't mind the stains |

Forget about it is my advice though I might resist whatever it was they were trying to make me do.
I've had this happen a few times. They rarely tell you the nature of the complaint, never tell you who made it. It is virtually always a woman and it will something petty, almost guarantee it. I worked in a lab for 4 years prior to medschool. Only guy with 15 women. 1/2 were cool, 1/2 were neurotic man-hating bitches with enough baggage to fill a 757. Someone complained about me at least every quarter. I did the work of 3 of them and they found out when I left how right I was about that. Just blow it off. |

Do you have a collective bargaining agreement? If yes, call your shop steward. No, then request a meeting with the parties involved to resolve the issue, especailly if discipline is involved, suspensions, removals etc. Avoid the person especially if the person is hostile or antagonistic, begin watching him from a distance, even if you watch the Pope long enough he will do something wrong or even illegal, then it will be your turn to inform your boss.....
Hey thanks drjarhead I thought of doing that at first, but my type A personalty is trying to get me to do otherwise, I don't want to be thought of as a fuckup at work. I have a feeling though they don't want the person's name to get out Bravo Foxtrots are never appreciated. Have a good one |

If your boss isn't going to show you the complaint but is going to require you to take additional training because of the complaint then I recommend you stop looking over your shoulders for who ever wrote the complaint. Look at what's being asked of you - take additional time on a task that will make you more proficient in what you do. Look at it as a gift rather than a negative. I know its not easy. However since they won't tell you exactly what is said about you or why then rather than looking at it against you, they're looking at what is the easiest way we can make things better. You should do the same.
However, I would suggest you also talking with your union to make sure nothing is put in your file or stated about you that could be interpreted in an evaluation as negative. Best wishes, Patty |
All good advice, they won't say though who it was as long as i pass friday which I am not worried about because we recertify every year and so far I have not had a problem I don't see why I would start now. They told me the issue would be chalked up as a fluke, no action taken against me. This is not the first time I have had a problem though someone dimed me out about dating I hold a security clearance and was investigated for supposedly living with someone while being married to someone else. Hmmm guess what that investigation turned up hmmmm my divorce. They wouldn't tell me who that was either they were like no hard feeling right we just got to look into these things. |

Is this the same Federal Government who fired a senior employee who used the word "niggardly" in a staff meeting to describe the upcoming budget crunch? And instead of expecting the offended parties to LOOK the word up in the dictionary and find what it REALLY means, they went the PC route and catered to someone's ignorance. If so, you're probably screwed. Evidently the inmates are running the asylum.

Hi Patty I agree with you we have a great training program and thats the thing our trainers are saying I do not have a problem with anything that they can see. I guess I am just frustrated at the fact I am called on to do something I do on a daily basis anyway and now have to recertify now then recertify in a few months time during my normal training week. |
Yeah the same sad huh, guilty till proven innocent, and just the other day me and my buddy were talking about how much we liked this job, I wouldn't even have minded if i did something wrong but this is just out of the blue. |

Oh yes, love those little whiny bitches at work...
We have them at the plant, they focus attention AWAY from themselves, and onto others in the hopes that will cause a "smoke screen" to cover thier worthless ass`s as they cannot do thier jobs and know it. Example, I was called to a meeting one day, my dept. manger and the plant engineer. I was told that a few "complaints" had been made about me, by some of the press operators, 99% of which are female. I was told that they were "afraid" of me, that I "intimidated" them. I said WOW, news to me, when a call is made, and I respond, I ask a few questions about the problem fix it and go on my way. Whats the problem with that? Well 1shott, they say you dont smile enough and that your size intimidates them.... Me...... OK, what else.... They also say you are not friendly enough... Me.... Damn this is getting good... So you guys are telling me that these operators, aka woman, are pissed because unlike the other mechanic on my shift, I do not grab thier ass`s and hug all over them and tell them how pretty they are, even if they are butt ugly, is that what this is about? They both just sat there,.... Then I said, tell you guys, I am a big ole guy, 6ft1, 280lbs, big broad shoulders, a big guy... Tell you what, I am not going to play grab ass at work, aint gonna happen, and if my size intimidates them, to bad, that is thier problem, they can deal with it. Also, if you have problem with it, tell you what, you go out and find me a few pills that turn me into a little sawed off runt like yourself, let me know, OK. Now I have work to do, we done here? Uhhh ya, thats all Thanks, and I walked out the door. I have put up with crap like that for 21 years, |
ding, ding, ding I had the same thing happen to me (from a hideous bitch). Something petty, I don't know what it actually was because they wouldn't tell me who or what either. The boss actually told me "I don't wan't you working for me anymore". It was a bullshit job anyway so I tried to be as much of an ass to selected people as I could (customer service), and bend over backwards to please some. HAHAHA that made for some entertainment. I don't know if your job is a good one, and the above option is pretty immature, but if it is a stupid job it is a lot of fun. Forgot to add, what made it so much fun was that they would not fire me no matter how hard I tried. They just kept asking me to quit. Damn, thinking back about it - towards the end that was one of the most fun jobs I had. LOL |
I can understand your frustration. What really irks me most is that in this day and age someone can call another person on the carpet and there's nothing that can be said or done with it. A 'man's' word isn't worth protecting anymore [reputation=word]. This is what is truly wrong with society today.
I just do not see what else you can do other than put a suggestion down that when people's integrety is challenged that they be given the opprotunity to defend it. Patty |
I can guarantee that it will take someone winning one helluva big lawsuit to change that. Deck is stacked in favor of whiners, backstabbers, and losers, no question. Tail wags the dog these days and HR dept's are now staffed with the largest assortment of dipshits you will find anywhere in your corp. |
And that is why I'm self employeed. That and I'm afraid 1shott wont grab my ass and tell me I'm not butt ugly. Patty
That's good for you. But if I ever go to work for you could you remember to do me once or twice a week just to keep my morale up? Thanks. |
if you are a government civilian there is no such thing as a complaint unless it is EEO or sexual harassment and you would have been told about it, the circumstances, what you did, how it affected the other person, and what you are not to do anymore. Yeah anybody can write out any complaint if it isn't about EEO, it can be performance or tardiness or anything, but it is up to your supervisor.
as a civil servant you have many rights, if it isn't EEO/sexual harassement I wouldn't pay it any attention at all |
Thanks all for the replies and other's experiences with the same thing. I am relaxing now at home starting to mellow about it. I hope Karma catches up with whoever it was though.
TRUST ME, if I was going to grab some ass, it would be yours...... |
Those that work for me can lick their nuts. However I've been known to scratch behind their ears to let them know they're a good boy. Patty *ETA* 1Shott quit lookin at my butt! |
You can scratch behind my ears all you want babe... BTW, cieling or pillows? |
Thanks 1Gunner no it is not EEO or sexual harrassement so I guess I will take your advice and advice of others and let it lay, recertify on fri then enjoy my weekend and file the incident in the forgottable life incident basket. |
Is that a job requirement? Because, I've tried and . . . |
I agree with a couple other folks; a woman ratted on you. This happened to me, too. Guilty by suspicion. Here is the likely rat: a woman, near the same age as you, with similar responsibilities. She has a history of putting down people in order to make herself look more valuable to the company. She speaks highly of herself (pats herself on the back a lot), but in reality is very insecure. (I profile people for a living.)
Here is where people like her screw up; she will tell someone else and they will come to you in private. When that happens, demand your HR or EEO department take action against her for slander. |
No, its not a requirement however you do need to have a good point. Patty |

Thanks guys, this is a great thread. My first summer job out of HS was at a furniture store, and I worked in the back with another teenager a few years younger. One day he went to management and complained that I was "too serious" (because I wouldn't joke around when there was work to be done). Ray came back laughing and said, Hey Schulze, you're too serious! and we had a laugh. Ever since then he called the kid "shitforbrains" and the little kid got fired a week later. |
What he said. |

Sometimes the Rumsfield doctrine goes into effect with me, I hadda problem with a guy at work sorta hadda feeling racial issues were involved, I myself at not at work to make friends or win popularity contests, but I began watching this guy from a distance seeing exactly the "zero" output he produced and the problems he left for me, he would purposely call in sick before a problem he could not resolve and the next day there was paperwork for me from the boss "could you take care of ....", well one day I just flatout refused to mop up after this turd and left the problem for him when he came back, well he was major pissed but I had "pre-empted" this guy and had told the boss I was not wiping this guy's ass...then the boss informed me that I was not the only person who hadda problem with this guy.....
Sounds about right to me, granted this is my frist time hearing the word but from what I can tell it is racist but then again I could have the history or the word wrong… http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3A+%22niggardly%22+&btnG=Google+Search |
+1 This time it's a "fluke". The next time it's a trend. Contact your union, employee association, what ever you have to represent you before the management and get this quashed. Next thing you know it will show up in your EER. Bullshit anonymous complaints have no place in the office/shop. They at least need to tell you what the complaint is for you to take action and correct it, if it is a valid complaint. |
Probably one of your supervisors has a problem with you and made up the story about it comming from someone else.
Your link didn't work for me so I typed the words "define niggardly" into Google. The first reference came up said that the word "niggardly" predated the "N" word by about three hundred years. |
Did you even read the content of the link you posted? It clearly says: ...Although the words sound similar, there is no etymological connection between the two. |
To the original poster:
If you work for the government, file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and demand they disclose the (supposed) written complaint. If they don't, file suit against them and ask the judge to make them disclose it. |
