Well my parents are getting ready to evacuate today.  Talked to Dad this morning, he was up late last night filling the new RV with every valuable/photo/firearm/painting/antique that couldn't be replaced easily.  That and attaching the family car via car dolly.

SO, if you see at overloaded, new RV towing a silver Dodge Intrepid heading north on I-69, give a friendly honk  And watch out because that old man can't drive for shit... j/k

So you guys get alot of sustained 111–130 mph winds and 9-12 foot storm surges in NY?

The initial scale was developed by Saffir while on commission from the United Nations to study low-cost housing in hurricane-prone areas. While performing the study, Saffir realized there was no simple scale for describing the likely effects of a hurricane. Knowing the utility of the Richter magnitude scale in describing earthquakes, he devised a 1–5 scale based on wind speed that showed expected damage to structures. Saffir gave the scale to the NHC, and Simpson added in the effects of storm surge and flooding. It does not take into account rainfall or location, which means a Category 3 hurricane that hits a major city will likely do far more damage than a Category 5 hurricane that hits a remote area.

Moving to fast. High pressure up north will have minimal effect. Look at Palacios. Corpus weather dead calm record high temp today seawater at 91 and thats a record water temp. Not good. I have seen mornings like this, bad omen. Shit I only have 100 rounds of 5.56 bad very bad.

Not sure what to think about this just yet. Here in Dallas, people are becoming aware, and gas prices are starting to inflate themselves again. Will be filling up the tank (again), have plenty of ammo, but will stock up on water, batteries, and food stuffs.

Not yanking the emergency brake just yet, but gotta get prepared none the less...

Good Morning!

Hurricane Rita is now a Cat 4 (131-155).  The  models used to track hurricanes show that the probable impact will be near Matagorda.  With this being the general location of landfall, the strongest side of the storm will severely impact the greater Harris County (Houston) with destructive winds, very heavy rains, and tornadoes.  

After landfall, the track of the storm is projected to move over Dallas - Fort Worth area.  If the storms reach land at a Cat 4, by the time it reaches DFW, it should be a
CAT 1.  We will experience wind gusts at time greater than 50 mph up to 74 mph.  The Metroplex will experience the affects of Hurricane Rita by Saturday afternoon. We can expect periods of heavy rains and possible tornadic event associated with the rain bands.  I would suggest that you stock up on batteries and potable waters.  Fuel up your vehicles.

I strongly suggest you monitor the weather channel or your news station for the latest information in this changing event.

Just heard last time Galveston,TX  was hit by a Cat4 they lost 8000, but this was around 1902 without warnings.

Time to get out, and don't forget the family pets.
