I had a case of Bursitis about 6 years ago in my ankle, it kept me from playing soccer. It hasn't bothered me since then until now, when I do alot of walking and running at college. What is the best way to keep it from acting up besides giving it rest: icing, elevation, stretching? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you have an MRI or arthrogram?  What did the radiologist/doctor say?

No, just went to the local family practice. He advised to stretch and ice it, but I'm just seeing if there is anything else I can do to make it go away.

If it is bothering you, a simple MRI or arthrogram under fluoroscopy will help determine what may be going on.

I would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon who is a foot and ankle specialist. Most ankle bursitis I see is due to inflammation from chronic lateral ankle instability aka old ankle sprains. A good physical exam by a pro is the first step in treatment.

I have it in my hip.  I have some exercises (phy therapy) that's supposed to help.  It seems to be getting better but I'm sure if I bumped the area hard enough it would 'kill' again.  Bursitis sucks.

After doing a buttload of reading, I figure it might just be Plantar Fasciitis, not the bursitis kicking up again. I went from sitting around a good part of the day to walking 1 hour and 30 mintues a day, plus running 3-5 miles every other day (Plantar Fasciitis is caused by overuse rapidly). Anyone have an experience with it? HOw long to go away if properly cared for?

I have bursitis in my shoulder. Doesn't go away fast.
It's chronic so it comes back on a regular basis.

I had bursitis in my knee and had to take antibiotics and have the dern thing drained.  It hasn't given me any trouble since.  Are you sure your problem is bursitis?

Back in 6th grade when the ankle was diagnosed, that's what I was told. Never had any medication or surgery for it, I just stopped playing soccer and it gradually went away. The pain was more in the Achilles tendon that time, but this time it's more in my heel. I really don't remember exactly what the bursitis felt like, leading me to think it was a reoccurence. Maybe it still is, but from what I've been reading it sounds more like this.

Plantar Fasciitis is a royual PITA [ankle not ass].  My advice is to buy birkenstocks [I know, I know but trust me, once you start wearing them you'll never go back] and next tape your ankle so its extended [foot straight up] at night when you sleep.

My natural pathic doctor prescribed Omega III vitamins and this helped tremendously for mine.

Now keep in mind, I'm not a doctor and you haven't dxed exactly what's wrong with your foot.  Pain is natures way of telling you to check it out.  My advice won't hurt you but you really should go to a doctor for a real diagnosis.

Best of luck,  Patty
