why do people call airplanes "jets" ??????
when i was a kid no one called them "props" !!!!! they were called airplanes or aircraft !! i am a former U.S.N. JET engine mechanic, and to call an airplane a "JET" is the stupidest thing i have encountered in many years !!!!!!!

I'm a former squid jet mechanic, and I called them jets then. I'm .gov on C-5s, and call these things jets. |

what's the story on these? Were they designed to replace the U2, but satellites and the SR71 rendered them obsolete right away? Or something else?

You didnt get the memo? Those are the hurricane steering planes. They have a 50 giga watt plasma laser then shoot into the eye of the hurricane, and they control the hurricane. Why do you think these hurricanes are suddenly coming into the Gulf?

Martin B-57's and RB-57's predated the U-2. There were 2 or maybe 2 1/2 variants; the first was basically a Canberra built in the US, the second had longer wings (motors too?) to increase it's ceiling. My memory is fuzzy, there may have been two iterations of span increase. There is bound to be more stuff on the internet than you can read about these airplanes. |

Jet is short for jet airplane. Similar to how we sometimes say “auto” instead of “automobile,” like “auto dealership” or “auto repair.” A commando is a commando as in guerilla warfare. Hell Douglas C. Waller wrote a book called The Commandos about US Spec Ops training and got exclusive access to watch the Green Berets, SEALs, Rangers, and others train. I think if they had a problem with the name he wouldn’t have called his book “The Commandos.” Quit being so nit picky. |

I can't see the pics, damn firewall blocks all pic hosting sites. When I was working U-2s in the 5 RS "Black Cats" we did at least one airshow. It can't be the first or the last. |

At least the Goblin was ugly in a charicaturish way... The RB57/Canberra were just plain FUGLY! I think they teach a Fugly Aero 101 course in England as a compulsory class for an Aero Engineeering Degree...
Sure, the Spitfire and Mosquito are pretty planes but what can you say about a country that turns out planes like the Canberra, Fairey Gannet, BAC Lightening, etc? All of them were butt-heinous compared to their contemporaries, and jokeworthy today!
