What is it?  Why does someone belong?

My mom recently moved.  We visited her 2 weeks ago and naturally she has found more of my "stuff" with this move.

One of the items she gave me was a card that declares me a "coial member of The Independent Order of Foresters"  court of Los Cerritos -241

I asked what it was and who is the member who enrolled/signed me up.  She said "I think maybe your dad."

So who are these people?  I know both dad and grandad were NRA members but never heard of them being foresters.....(I know it cant be job related....grandpa was a mortician and worked aerospace like my dad)
