Last time I waxed the car I got some on a silver matt plastic trim piece. Anybody have any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the plastic?

Tooth brush is actually not a bad idea. Plastics are porous, and the toothbrush used GENTLY can lift the wax out of those pores. Use a little bit of your car soap and water with the brush.

A product called "Goof Off."

Get's off tar, bugs, pine sap, and that wax crap from the plastic, etc.  Great stuff.

I use car detailing brushes that can be found at Autozone or any of the other stores like that.  They usually come in a three pack with three different coursness levels.

Read around on autopia.org.

What I've found works is a little dab of eagle one rim cleaner on a toothbrush not letting it sit very long at all before flushing with water.

Before you try this try regular car soap, diluted of course on a toothbrush. Maybe a little dawn would work instead, when I'm ready to do a monster re-wax on my vehicle I wash it with dawn which get's the wax off very well.

From the strange-but-true files, peanut butter worked into the plastic with a toothbrush and then washed off will remove the wax.
