I will be going to Colo. and wish to mail handguns and rifles to myself in my home state of Texas. What is the best way to do this, which carrier should I use?

i don't think that's a good idea.  

i believe it is illegal.

if i were you, i would not attempt such a thing.

i believe it would be far safer to travel with your weapons.  

do what you will, but if i am not mistaken, it is *very* illegal.

It is perfectly legal to ship firearms to yourself. However, you cannot mail handguns. You would have to use FedEx or UPS to ship your handguns.  The cost would be pretty high since they require next day shipment for handguns.   Also, since you would be shipping to a non FFL (yourself), you are legally required to notify the carrier that you are shipping firearms.

(B10) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?


Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the state where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.

The other question is how are you going to legally obtain these firearms in Colorado if you are a Texas resident?

I'd just buddy up with a local FFL in colorado and ship everthing to them, and just pick them up once I became a legal resident of CO, might work out just a notional storage charge
