Just reported on CNN:

Student In Custody By FBI
September 16, 2005A University of Memphis student in the U.S. On a visa that expired 6 years ago is in federal custody after authorities raided his apartment. 29 year old Mahmoud Maawad of Egypt is charged with wire fraud and fraudlent use of a social security number. The FBI got a warrant to search his U of M area apartment after an online pilot’s store contacted them and told them he had made 11 purchases over a 2 month period and his debit card bounced.

Court documents show he ordered $3,300 worth of flight equipment including handfuls of instructional DVD’s and books on flying with titles like, How A Captain Should Look and Act and Handling In-Flight Emergencies.

Authorities discovered Maawad used a fake social security number to enroll in the U of M, and open a local bank account. Maawed appeared before a federal judge yesterday, and is now being held without bond.

They also said he had information on Memphis International Airport.
