Sqeeky wheel gets the oil.  In this case, it's the squeeling piglets!  At least it will not be as big a boon-doggle as was the original fund for the levy.  Looks like they are actually using the money for useful stuff, however misplaced.  A BIG CHANGE FOR THE FG!

Sorry, I disagree, we had real men in power in the early years of this country that would not have done the same. There have been other disasters and the men and women affected by them pulled themselves up with some help from their neighbors. It is not the federal governments responsibility to spend us into oblivion.

I decided not to watch...nothing he says at this point will change the fact that we are basically screwed. I dont even care any longer. Short of living off the grid at the edge of some national forest, one really has no recourse but to pay our extortion money (taxes) into the system and financially support so many things that will prove over time to have been a waste.

Hell, bring on hillary at this point, does it even fucking matter any more?
Take my guns, take my rights, take my money.....the founding fathers would vomit if they could see the current state of affairs. I truly believe that.

I can hardly wait until the next big election swing to see how this storm gets brought into the debate. Bush's domestic policy is a sad and pathetic example, and an embarrasment for true conservatives.

Funny how no one in the media has been talking about war on terror lately...guess it isnt selling as well as the weather is these days. Just as well, we are so busy trying to win 'hearts and minds' that we have pretty much neglected the original idea which was to kill the enemy

Maybe the quality of your neighbors isn't the same anymore.  I wouldn't expect any of my neighbors to help me, when they had lost a lot of their shit too.  What do you do when you're out of work because you are self employed?  Why pay taxes if you can't eventually get a little help.

You seem to forget that honest, tax paying citizens were in this as well.

Was there a gist to this response?

Or are you merely remarking upon the fact that Mr. Crockett made an honest go of being true member of his community, and operating as a representative within the bounds of our Constitution?

Let's finance all this with a $2.00 per gallon gas tax.  Then let the public decide.

It shocks me that people get violent about paying $500 more a year on fuel, but don't bat an eye at the money they pay in taxes...

Although I enjoyed the article on Crockett, I can't help but wonder if 'promoting the general welfare' does not include disaster relief by .gov? When a couple Million people are affected, does that not qualify as 'general' enough to warrant relief?

I'm not advocating GIVING anybody anything...but shouldn't .gov have a program to lend money interest free for rebuilding homes and businesses? Notice I specify 'lend' the money as in FHA loans, etc. Giving scumbags free gratis monetary gifts do NOTHING to restore those peoples living quarters. It does pump money into the economy, but does nothing to sustain it.

Lend money, hell no.  An entire city, their city needs to be rebuilt.  Bus 'em back to base camp and put them to work, ya know a JOB, and pay them to clean up THEIR city.  Fuck the handouts.  Put them to work.

While I wouldn't have said it quite this way, this is the spirit of my argument.

I suppose I only play devil's advocate against RikWriter, because I lament the loss of family and community as social units in our society. There was a time when these people would have been left well enough alone, and would have already been working to rebuild their lives, instead of standing around waiting for a handout.

Well, this ought to push this nation's imminent economic collapse up by a few years. Maybe it'll come before the Chicoms are ready to take us on. Could work out for the best in the long run if you consider an economic collapse "for the best".

Who'd have thought that the greatest socialist President of the past 3 decades would be a two term Republican. This is only the beginning.
