Although Alabama is a fine, fine country band (used to be, they are gay now) I can think of several more examples of way better country bands.

Johnny Cash is the grand pooba of country music no doubt, but he is not a band and Lord rest his soul, he is with Jesus and Waylon

Nope.  Country should be country.  If I wanted to listen to pop music I would tune the "Light Mix" station.
Most Country needs some dulcimer or banjo in it.

Southern Rock<>Country.  True, the Mashall Tucker Band was on the country side of that genre, they had the precussion, guitar work, and composition that all too often is lacking in country music.

Don't get me wrong, there are some really good musicians in Country, especially vocalists like Lee Ann Rimes (any relation to BustaRhymes?).  It's  just that I HATE the ho-downing, greased pig grabbin, cotton picking, shine drinkin' type of stuff.  I'd love to see Rimes do some classical stuff...

Agreed. Alabama was always overrated (though not without some good songs back in the day of course).

Hell, they were almost crossover country before the term was coined I think. Thought now it's crossover with pop instead of crossover with rock.

Yup give me some Krauss and Union Station anyday over that crap.

I sure like the fiddle and banjo myself......

The MTB drew on alot of influences.  Sort of the first fusion of country/jazz/blues/rock.
Strong writing, excellent musicianship, a depth of vocal styles, and excellent production were hallmarks.

I knew this was going to be about Alabama.

I like them very much. Or their older stuff anyway. Guess I haven't heard too much of the newer stuff.

Whether you like them or not you have to admit Alabama is the most successful country band ever. I like many of the other bands listed, but none of them were ever as successful as Alabama.
