CONCORD, N.C. -- Mooresville police said Concord police K-9 unit officer Quinn Witherspoon has been shot and killed in his home.
Officials said a wife called 911 and reported the incident. She and two children were in the home with Witherspoon at the time of the incident.
Investigators said responding police officers found Witherspoon lying on a couch, unconscious, with a shot in the head.
Police are investigating the shooting as an accident. They said there is no evidence to believe that there was any foul play, but the gunshot does not appear to be self-inflicted.
The Mooresville Police Department has been in contact with the Concord Police Department.
Officials said the Concord Police Department has 150 officers. Many officers from both departments knew Witherspoon.
So who killed him? the wife, one of the kids, or the dog?
