It pisses me off a little, but they weren't the first or the worst to take advantage of a name like that.
I do wish they'd quit fucking up genuine Garands and calling them improved.

SA, Inc. is not the original US Armory, but a seperate company that merely bought the rights to use the name.
ETA: I could care less about the "misleading" name, since Colt and Kimber, despite being "original companies," let just as much crap out the door as SA Inc. |

Misleading because they are not the SpringField of olden days, manufacturing muskets and 1911s for the US armed forces but are instead just a firearms company that was created after the original company ceased to be and took on a name that has a reputation the new company has not earned?
Nope not really, their firearms are not anywhere near the quality of USGI made Springfield firearms, but it is common knowledge, at least I thought them takng the name was common, hell I am a Canuck and I know |

So they're a company now, instead of a federal armory. Does anyone believe they're buying a new 1911 from a federal armory? I don't, therefore the name isn't misleading. I think it's only misleading to dumbasses....so isn't this a non-issue? It's worth noting that my 1943 SA M1 Garand, while a wonderful weapon, does not come with a lifetime warranty. |

You'd be really surprised how many people I run into that don't know that Springfield Inc. is not the Springfield of old.
As far as their products are concerned I've got one of their milspec 1911's and a 9mm XD. Not one problem out of either one, except the shitty finish on my XD. |

People that confuse the name with company of yore shouldn't be buying guns in the first place. Many brand firearms companies today are not the same company, say 20 years ago. I believe Colt has been in bankruptcy several times, the name Kimber was originally based in Oregon made rifles instead of 1911s, and it went bankrupt and was bought by another concern. Dan Wesson & Itahca Shootgun was in bankruptcy at one time, and the name was bought from the bankruptcy court and restarted.

Wrong. It's not the same company. Not at all. Even the name is different: Colt's Manufacturing. ETA: There is no firearms company named "Colt" anymore. It ceased to exist years ago. If you own a "Colt" firearm from, say, 1890, and an AR15 from 2005, they are from entirely different companies. The company that makes "Colt" firearms today is named "Colt's Manufacturing" and is only operating under license from the "Colt" of yesterday. |

It bothers me only to the extent that I think it falls under the general ctegory of "false advertising"
The didn't pick the name at random, but did it deliberately to fool people into thinking they ARE the original company. Armalite's advertising, in particular, has often clearly been trying to do this. |

I agree, however.... I've got 2 SA 1911's and 1 Armalite lower, and so far, I'm tickled pink by them. They could say 'poo-bear's guns, tackle, and fuzzy valentine's day gifts' on the side for all I care. |

Springfield has an unearned reputation for the most part... It was a government owned facility, hence it did development and was continually operational for decades (didn't have short lived contracts). I can't think of one weapon produced by Springfield that they did better than contractors did when called upon to do so. Remington, Winchester, Colt, H&R you name it...
If you really want to get under the skin of a Springfield lover, remind them that the '03 is a Mauser. |

What, because the frame forgings are made by Imbel? It's not assembled in Brazil. Hell, the frames are probably even finished-fitted here. |

IMBEL makes the forgings, which usually are sent to the states for machining. If the machining is done in Brazil, the frame is stamped "F I Brazil" under where the grip panels go, since the receiver is the gun. They're all still assembled here in the states, no matter where the frame was finished. Oh, and the M1As are all built here in the States. |
