I'd like to try one!!!!!

'World's strongest beer'
Reuters
September 12, 2005
A GERMAN brewer has concocted what he says is the world's strongest beer, a potent drink with an alcohol content of 25.4 per cent that is served in a shot glass.

"Everyone who has tried it is enthusiastic. It tastes like a quirky mixture of beer and sherry," said Bavarian brewer Harald Schneider.

Schneider, who lives in southern Germany where beer is a tradition, said his beer fermented for 12 weeks for an alcohol content twice that of Germany's other strongest beers.

"People will only be able to drink two or three glasses, otherwise they'll drop like flies," he said.

Schneider expects the holders of the world's strongest beer, the Boston Beer Company, to put up a fight.

"I'm pretty sure the Americans have something up their sleeve."

Doesn't a "Boilermaker" serve the same purpose?

Isn't this more of an after dinner drink?

Exactly.  One is for martini's, and my bourbon.  That usually turns in to two.  Choking down a beer doesn't sound to enjoyable.

Traders has some good 10-12% beer and it only takes one.

It was my understanding that 10 to 12 % alcohol was as strong a beer or wine that one could make because after that the concentration of alcohol killed the yeast.  So to make stronger, one had to distill or use membrane technology to concentrate the alcohol more.

How did this bastard do it then?

Sam Adams has a beer called "Utopia" that is 25% by volume. Should be interesting to compare these beers.

Its no longer beer once you hit ~10% by volume, its a barley wine (that just happens to taste like beer) after that point.

When will Canucks learn to use brown bottles?

Canada, land of no sun, doesn't have to worry about beer going bad.

I have had Sam Adams Triple Bock before, interesting. Tastes more like soy sauce than a lager.

Dogfish Head also brews the WorldWide Stout, at 18% abv.: "the world's strongest dark beer."
www.dogfish.com/beer/worldwidestout.cfm
It's brewed for 7 months, then aged another 6.  It is an excellent stout, and is as described: dark and rich.  The alcohol is far from overwhelming, and does not "taste" as high as 18% while drinking it, but you definitely feel it once you finish the bottle.

It's Gulden Draak, my friend, and the ale laid me flat on the ground one night. My buddy forgot to tell me about the alcohol content.

I've had the 120 minute IPA.  It was...interesting.  Sure tasted better than Budweiser, but it's not something you'd want to have everyday, even if you could afford it (6 or 7 bucks for a 12 oz bottle).  It was like a combination of IPA and maybe a strong light sherry.  I felt kinda ripped off when I finished it.  Then I had more beer and just felt ripped.

Randall the Enamel Animal is pretty awesome, I've had Randallized 90 minute IPA at the brewpub in Rehobeth, DE.  It's not as sweet as the straight stuff, and has a unique flavor...it's quite good.  At the end of happy hour the bartenders passed out free 4oz cups of what was left in Randall before they packed it up.
