while we're on the topic I would like to find a belt that I can use a holster with as well as put 2+ spare mags in..  Something that I can fasten to me at night for searching the lower levels of the house.   I'd preferrably like something that clicks together with 2 mags on the left, a holster on the right and keep the surefire and gun in my hand.

For this an Uncle Mike's duty rig would probably be the way to go. Light, cheaper than Safariland and less than all OD Milspec.

Real Old School (WWI) was this

This one's actually Brit, but pretty close to the US Issue - Brown LEather with brass fixtures.

The Old Style (WWII - Late 70's, IIRC) was cotton canvas and had metal grommets and metal buckle assembly.

The new issue are nylon with metal grommets and plastic buckles.

Current GI issue GI LC-2

Command Approved (in green of course)

Authorised by some CO's as "optional equipment" (IE Keep Uncle's for turn in & readiness drills but you can wear this in the field)

Thanks Tango7 and Fat_McNasty.  I recon I should have meant military types of pistol belts, but I like the Western rigs to.
So the military still uses belts with gromets.  Wow.  Didn't know that.  I figured they all went to useing alice clips.  What do they still use that need gromets?
